Reegan Ledet, SDB

(Los Angeles, California) – As a Salesian Brother, one of the most fulfilling aspects of my vocation is serving the community, particularly through attending basketball games at Bishop Mora Salesian High School. Being there is more than just observing; it’s about connecting with the students and showing them they are valued, regardless of the game’s outcome. For the players, it’s knowing someone is rooting for them and understands the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication.

Sports can be intense, and young people often feel pressure to perform. But when we are in the bleachers, our presence reminds the team and the student body that their worth isn’t defined by the score but by their character, effort, and respect for each other. We strive to see God in the players’ hard work, in their camaraderie, and in the grace that comes through sports—whether in moments of triumph or struggle.

One of the most beautiful aspects of these games is seeing the entire Bishop Mora Salesian community come together. The students, coaches, and families create a sense of belonging and solidarity that brings Saint John Bosco’s community vision to life. The gym is not just a place for competition; it’s where a family supports each other, lifting one another up through victory and defeat.

For me, these moments are more than just showing support—they are opportunities to see God in action. I witness God’s presence in every gesture of encouragement, every act of sportsmanship, and every shared moment of joy or disappointment. In these everyday moments, I am reminded of the Salesian charism: to find God in all things, even in the ordinary.

Attending the games is a ministry of encouragement that reflects the core values of the Salesian mission: to be present, compassionate, and supportive. Whether cheering for a winning shot or comforting a player after a loss, I am reminded that my presence matters. It matters to the team and the students in the stands, and, ultimately, it matters because it reminds us all of God’s love.

Basketball games are not just competitions—they are celebrations of community, faith, and perseverance. As Salesians, we are all blessed to witness God’s presence both on the court and in the hearts of the young people we serve.

Photo Credit: Bishop Mora Salesian High School FB page

“Last Friday night, our school community came together to honor our seniors on the Varsity Basketball Team.
