Members of the Salesian Family, the young people, lay collaborators, and Salesians themselves organize continual prayers and vigils, including those led by the Capitulars at the 29th General Chapter (GC29) in Turin-Valdocco. This worldwide outpouring of prayer is a testament to the profound love, respect, and gratitude the Salesian Family holds for Pope Francis.

Pope Francis’ Health Condition: A Gradual Recovery

Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized for 15 days due to bilateral pneumonia, has shown signs of improvement, though his prognosis remains guarded. The Vatican’s latest medical reports indicate that he is alternating between high-flow oxygen therapy and a Ventimask—a development described as an improvement by medical professionals—as it allows for a mix of oxygen and room air, aiming to help him breathe more autonomously.

Doctors have noted steady progress in his condition. Blood tests have shown positive results for two consecutive days, with anemia now resolved and slight kidney insufficiency subsided. A chest CT scan revealed that the lung inflammation is evolving normally. However, the infection is still present, and the Pope remains under cautious observation due to the complexity of his condition.

On Thursday, Feb. 27, Pope Francis dedicated his morning to respiratory physiotherapy, alternating it with moments of rest. In the afternoon, he prayed in the chapel of his private apartment on the 10th floor of the Gemelli Hospital, received the Eucharist, and resumed some work activities. He continues to eat normally, is in good spirits, and reportedly slept well through the night.

While there have been no further respiratory crises since the severe episode on Saturday, Feb. 22, when he required high-flow oxygen and blood transfusions, doctors have emphasized that additional days of clinical stability are needed before a clearer prognosis can be determined. The Pope’s medical condition remains “complex,” and his recovery is expected to be a slow process, as respiratory physiotherapy helps his lungs expel fluid.

Global Prayers for Pope Francis

The Salesian Family has joined Catholics and non-Catholics worldwide in praying for Pope Francis’ health. Young people in Salesian oratories, schools, and parishes have come together for vigil prayers, drawing inspiration from the Pope’s tireless dedication to the Church and his love for the youth. The Capitulars at GC29 in Turin-Valdocco have also dedicated moments of prayer and reflection for his recovery, entrusting him to the intercession of Mary Help of Christians.

The Salesian Family, alongside the universal Church, remains steadfast in prayer for the Holy Father and entrusts Pope Francis to God’s care and the maternal protection of Mary Help of Christians. United in faith and hope, they pray that the Holy Father may soon recover his strength, resume his office, and continue to lead the Church with the same energy and pastoral zeal that have defined his pontificate.

(ANS – Rome) – As Pope Francis continues his recovery from bilateral pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, the Salesian Family across the globe has united in fervent prayer to express their closeness and support for the Holy Father during this difficult time.
