Nearby is a flaming Heart, the ardent Love of the Lord Jesus. Francis, who died in 1622 was an early devotee of the Sacred Heart. Some sixty years later, a Sister of the Visitation, founded by Francis, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, was favored with visions of the Sacred Heart, which marked the start of the First Friday devotions we celebrate today.

Evidently, by the 1930s, the Heavens decided we of earth needed new impetus to honor God’s Love and Mercy embedded in the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus. God chose another Sister whose mind and heart were enflamed with the Love and Mercy of Christ. In the year 2000, St. John Paul II Canonized Sr. Faustina Kowalska of the Mercy of God and the Holy Eucharist, and entitled this Second Sunday of Easter as the Feast of Divine Mercy, as the Lord requested. The readings today become invitations to honor that Loving Mercy of Jesus.
“Yet more than ever, believers in the Lord, great numbers of men and women, were added to them.” In the power of the Resurrection, the apostles set many free from sickness and disease, and many were added to the believers.
