Mass this 5th Sunday of Easter refers often to Jesus, Risen Savior and Shepherd, and to us, His flock who follow Him. The reading from Acts points to a new shepherd, Jesus, taught by Paul and his companion Barnabas. The Church never forgets the Passion, nor does Paul forget: “It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.” That lesson Paul learned from being stoned and left for dead in Lystra. Yet, here are Paul and Barnabas returning from the first missionary journey and visiting Lystra and other cities that had stirred up mortal hatred for Paul and what he preached<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Book of Revelation, the Apostle John takes us beyond the bounds of earth to “a new heaven and a new earth.” This is the Church, the bride of Christ in glory. Not only are Paul and Barnabas apostles of the Gospel, but also the flock. We, too, by our lives are to preach the Name of Christ on earth and become citizens of the new kingdom. We hear the loud voice from the Throne, “Behold, God’s dwelling is with the human race.” He will be with us always and, we too, will surround His Throne, “For there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, for the old order has passed away.” Our destiny. Brothers and sisters of today, think of that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gospel invites us to the banquet of love. Judas had already abandoned the Lord and left the supper. Followers of Jesus, even now, by grave sin break away from Him. What happened to Judas forever can happen to an unrepentant sinner. Jesus prayed for the Apostles whom He had led toward eternal life. But of Judas, “None of them was lost except the son of destruction” (Jn 17:12). Jesus also prayed for those who would believe the Apostles. In the shadow of this event, Jesus spoke a new law, “I give you a new commandment. Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” Money, power, sensuality, and inflated self-esteem can lead to ‘destruction.’ But Love leads to life with the Lover of humankind forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De la Dificultad a La Gloria<\/strong><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

La Misa de este 5\u00ba Domingo de Pascua se refiere a menudo a Jes\u00fas, Salvador y Pastor resucitado, y a nosotros, su reba\u00f1o que lo sigue. La lectura de los Hechos de los Ap\u00f3stoles se\u00f1ala a un nuevo pastor, Jes\u00fas, ense\u00f1ado por Pablo y su compa\u00f1ero Bernab\u00e9. La Iglesia nunca olvida la Pasi\u00f3n, ni Pablo olvida: “Es necesario que pasemos muchas dificultades para entrar en el reino de Dios.” Esa lecci\u00f3n la aprendi\u00f3 Pablo al ser apedreado y dado por muerto en Listra. Sin embargo, aqu\u00ed est\u00e1n Pablo y Bernab\u00e9 regresando del primer viaje misional y visitando Listra y otras ciudades que hab\u00edan despertado el odio mortal hacia Pablo y lo que predicaba.
 
En el libro de Apocalipsis, el ap\u00f3stol Juan nos lleva m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de los l\u00edmites de la tierra a “un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva.” Esta es la Iglesia, la novia de Cristo en gloria. No solo Pablo y Bernab\u00e9 son ap\u00f3stoles del Evangelio, sino tambi\u00e9n el reba\u00f1o. Tambi\u00e9n nosotros, con nuestras vidas, debemos predicar el Nombre de Cristo en la tierra y convertirnos en ciudadanos del nuevo reino. O\u00edmos la fuerte voz desde el Trono: “He aqu\u00ed la morada de Dios con la raza human.” \u00c9l estar\u00e1 siempre con nosotros y nosotros tambi\u00e9n rodearemos Su Trono, “porque ya no habr\u00e1 muerte, ni lamento, ni dolor, porque el antiguo orden ha pasado”. Nuestro destino. Hermanos y hermanas de hoy, \u00a1piensen en eso!
 
El Evangelio nos invita al banquete del amor. Judas ya hab\u00eda abandonado al Se\u00f1or y hab\u00eda dejado la cena. Los seguidores de Jes\u00fas, incluso ahora, por pecado grave, se separan de \u00c9l. Lo que le sucedi\u00f3 a Judas para siempre le puede suceder a un pecador impenitente. Jes\u00fas or\u00f3 por los ap\u00f3stoles a quienes hab\u00eda guiado hacia la vida eterna. Pero de Judas: “No se perdi\u00f3 ninguno de ellos, sino el hijo de la destrucci\u00f3n” (Jn 17,12). Jes\u00fas tambi\u00e9n or\u00f3 por aquellos que creer\u00edan en los ap\u00f3stoles. A la sombra de este acontecimiento, Jes\u00fas pronunci\u00f3 una nueva ley: “Os doy un mandamiento nuevo. Amaos los unos a los otros. Como yo os he amado, as\u00ed tambi\u00e9n vosotros deb\u00e9is amaros los unos a los otros. As\u00ed sabr\u00e1n todos que sois mis disc\u00edpulos, si os ten\u00e9is amor los unos a los otros”. El dinero, el poder, la sensualidad, la autoestima inflada pueden llevar a la ‘destrucci\u00f3n’. Pero el Amor lleva a la vida con el Amante de la humanidad para siempre.
