Sixteenth Sunday, Be Generous; Seventeenth Sunday, Be  Strong; this Eighteenth Sunday, “Eat, Drink, and be Merry” is that what Jesus said? Not exactly, but He did use those words to warn his listeners that to live by them is foolish and would lead a person to a regretful end. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Book of Ecclesiastes<\/strong> leads us emphatically to live wisely and not be dependent on the things of this world, for one person may labor with great toil and all wisdom to set himself up to live with ease and comfort, and another who lives carelessly,  will meet the same end, Death.  All the effort, all the care taken, it is in vain. It is vanity, useless over-attention with oneself. Live for Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St. Paul advised the Colossians: \u201c<\/em><\/strong>Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died.\u201d<\/em> By deciding to follow Jesus, by conversion, one dies to this world as Christ died to this world. Thus, one accepts to be born into new life from above. It is best to think of such high ideas by attaching them to a person, and for Paul, that was the person of Christ. He died for us, and we work to die for Him. To turn toward God through Jesus, Paul tells us, is to \u201cDie to self.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>  By deciding to follow Jesus, by your conversion, we die to this world as Christ died for this world, accepting to be born again to life above and we die to \u201cimmorality, impurity, passion, evil desire,and the greed that is idolatry.\u201d<\/em> Let us not fear to live for Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And<\/strong> St. Luke in the Gospel<\/strong> gives us two examples of how this is done. First, avoid desire for wealth: \u201cTake care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one\u2019s life does not consist of possessions.\u201d <\/em>This, to someone who yearns for a good share of his deceased brother\u2019s inheritance, is not easy. The second is a rich man who thinks to rest easily by collecting a great deposit of wealth. He thinks \u201cto rest, eat and drink, and be merry,\u201d<\/em> yet his end is near. Jesus calls him a fool, absent of true knowledge of life beyond death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes we hear that the way to heaven is easy. Here Jesus says that it truly takes dedication. Let it take dedication to Him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u00a1Descansa, come, bebe, divi\u00e9rtete!\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Decimosexto domingo, S\u00e9 generoso; decimos\u00e9ptimo domingo, S\u00e9 fuerte; este decimoctavo domingo, “\u00bfCome, bebe y al\u00e9grate?”, \u00bfes eso lo que dijo Jes\u00fas? No exactamente, pero us\u00f3 esas palabras para advertir a sus oyentes que vivir seg\u00fan ellas es una insensatez y llevar\u00eda a una persona a un final lamentable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El libro de Eclesiast\u00e9s<\/strong> nos gu\u00eda enf\u00e1ticamente a vivir con sabidur\u00eda y a no depender de las cosas de este mundo, pues una persona puede trabajar con gran esfuerzo y sabidur\u00eda para vivir con comodidad, y otra que vive descuidadamente, encontrar\u00e1 el mismo fin: la muerte. Todo el esfuerzo, todo el cuidado, es en vano. Es vanidad, una in\u00fatil atenci\u00f3n excesiva a uno mismo. Vivan para Jes\u00fas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

San Pablo aconsej\u00f3 a los colosenses<\/strong>: “Piensen en las cosas de arriba, no en las de la tierra. Porque han muerto”. Al decidir seguir a Jes\u00fas, por conversi\u00f3n, uno muere a este mundo como Cristo muri\u00f3 a este mundo. As\u00ed, uno acepta nacer a una nueva vida de lo alto. Es mejor pensar en tales ideas elevadas vincul\u00e1ndolas a una persona, y para Pablo, esa era la persona de Cristo. \u00c9l muri\u00f3 por nosotros, y nosotros trabajamos para morir por \u00c9l. Volverse hacia Dios a trav\u00e9s de Jes\u00fas, nos dice Pablo, es “Morir a uno mismo”. Al decidir seguir a Jes\u00fas, por su conversi\u00f3n, morimos a este mundo como Cristo muri\u00f3 por este mundo, aceptando nacer de nuevo a la vida de arriba y morimos a “la inmoralidad, la impureza, la pasi\u00f3n, el mal deseo y la avaricia que es idolatr\u00eda”. No temamos vivir para Jes\u00fas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y San Lucas en el Evangelio<\/strong> nos da dos ejemplos de c\u00f3mo se hace esto. Primero, evitar el deseo de riqueza: \u201cCu\u00eddense de toda avaricia, porque aunque uno sea rico, su vida no consiste en posesiones\u201d. Esto, para alguien que anhela una buena parte de la herencia de su hermano fallecido, no es f\u00e1cil. El segundo es un hombre rico que piensa descansar f\u00e1cilmente acumulando una gran cantidad de riqueza. Piensa \u201cdescansar, comer, beber y divertirse\u201d, pero su fin est\u00e1 cerca. Jes\u00fas lo llama necio, carente del verdadero conocimiento de la vida despu\u00e9s de la muerte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A veces escuchamos que el camino al cielo es f\u00e1cil. Aqu\u00ed Jes\u00fas dice que realmente requiere dedicaci\u00f3n. Que requiera dedicaci\u00f3n a \u00c9l.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
