Fabio Attard, Delivered During His Visit

(ANS – Quito) – The first Animation Visit by the Rector Major, Fr Fabio Attard, outside Italy had as its destination the Salesian Sacred Heart of Jesus Province of Ecuador (ECU). For several days, September 11 to 15, the 11th Successor of Don Bosco met Salesians, lay people, young people, the university community and the Salesian Family, making his visit through the country a significant event for the Salesian mission.

In each of these meetings of dialogue and sharing, the Rector Major left messages that inspired renewed commitment to the education and evangelization of young people, encouraging them to continue the work begun by Don Bosco and the first Salesian pioneers in Ecuador. His words have become a guide to look at the present with hope and plan the future with responsibility and faith. Below are some summary messages shared by the Rector Major:

1. To the Salesians and lay people of the Salesian Project North Zone:

“It is important to believe in the education and accompaniment of children, because the time will come when they will grow up and become adults, and then they will have the opportunity to look back and recognise those who have believed in their present and their future.”

2. To the youth of the Salesian Youth Movement (MGS):

“If we want a better, fraternal, just Ecuador, you must start with each one of you. We cannot wait for a better Ecuador to come from others. If we young people of the SYM do not have the capacity to offer our country something meaningful, something good, something authentic, the SYM is worth nothing. On the contrary, you SYM young people must be the change in this country; this is what Don Bosco wanted.”

3. To the university community:

“Many times we are children of a mentality of the immediate, but education is not limited to the immediate. Education has an outlook that goes much further. The young people who today find themselves in our works and presences, without saying so, want, seek and desire to meet adults who, thanks to their closeness, allow them to open their hearts.”

4. To the groups of the Salesian Family

“The mission is what I live, and what I then, automatically, share (…) This is the mission: to live what the Lord asks of me. Maria Troncatti lived it with total freedom, giving herself completely. So did Fr Luigi Bolla, Fr Carlo Crespi and many Salesians, Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Past Pupils and Salesian Cooperators… This is the moment when our passion must be truly authentic, healthy, human and humble, dedicated to others, dedicated to the young.”

5. At the solemn session for the 50th anniversary of the Salesian Centre for Ongoing Formation for America (CSFPA)

“The charismatic gift that the Lord has offered has found people, Salesians and lay people who have believed in the charism and its ongoing generating power. Over these years we have known people who, with conscience, wisdom and constant commitment, have become good and faithful servants of the talent entrusted to them.”

With these words and many others, as well as with his gestures and his testimony, Fr. Attard has sown seeds that will certainly continue to blossom in times to come.

Salesian Communications Office of Ecuador

(ANS – Quito) – The first Animation Visit by the Rector Major, Fr Fabio Attard, outside Italy had as its destination the Salesian Sacred Heart of Jesus Province of Ecuador (ECU).
