{"id":25519,"date":"2025-10-02T19:59:54","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T02:59:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salesianbulletin.org\/?p=25519"},"modified":"2025-10-08T19:11:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T02:11:13","slug":"pope-leo-god-will-ask-us-if-we-have-cared-for-our-common-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salesianbulletin.org\/es\/2025\/10\/02\/pope-leo-god-will-ask-us-if-we-have-cared-for-our-common-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope Leo: God Will Ask Us if We Have Cared for Our Common Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>(ANS \u2013 Castel Gandolfo)\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Pope Leo addresses participants in an international conference on climate justice and reflects on Pope Francis\u2019 landmark ecological encyclical <em>Laudato Si, <\/em>noting that when the time comes, God will ask us if we cared for our common home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Wednesday afternoon, marking the tenth anniversary of Pope Francis\u2019 encyclical,\u00a0&#8220;<em>Laudato Si<\/em>,&#8221; Pope Leo XIV addressed participants in the\u00a0<em>Raising Hope<\/em>\u00a0Conference, organized by the Laudato Si\u2019 Movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his address, the Pope expressed gratitude for the legacy of Pope Francis\u2019 encyclical, noting how its message has inspired schools, dioceses, academic programs, and international dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIts impact,\u201d he said, \u201chas extended to summits, interreligious initiatives, economic and business circles, as well as theological and bioethical studies.\u201d Above all, he noted that the phrase \u201ccare for our common home\u201d has become a standard phrase, used in academic work and public discourse across peoples and continents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A conversion of heart<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While recalling the achievements of the past decade, Pope Leo emphasized that the challenges identified in\u00a0<em>Laudato Si\u2019<\/em>\u00a0are \u201ceven more relevant today than they were ten years ago.\u201d These challenges, he said, are not only political and social, but also spiritual, calling for what Pope Francis described as a \u201cconversion of heart.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pope explained that the heart \u201cis where the deepest searching takes place, where one\u2019s ultimate identity is found, and where decisions are forged. It is only by returning to the heart that a true ecological conversion can take place.\u201d This transformation, he continued, means shifting \u201cfrom collecting data to caring; from environmental discourse to lifestyles inspired by faith and love of God.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>All are one<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quoting Pope Francis\u2019 description of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Holy Father reminded participants that ecological concern, justice for the poor, social commitment, and inner peace are inseparable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking ahead to upcoming global summits, including&nbsp;COP30&nbsp;and the&nbsp;UN\u2019s 2026 Water Conference, the Pope urged leaders to heed the cries of \u201cthe Earth and the poor, families, indigenous peoples, involuntary migrants and believers throughout the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What will be our answer?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Concluding his address, Pope Leo asked the question: \u201cGod will ask us if we have cultivated and cared for the world that He created, and if we have taken care of our brothers and sisters.
