One day time will end; there will be a new heaven and a new earth. So the voice  of God revealed from His Throne to the beloved Apostle St John (cf. Rev 21:1-5ff):\u201cThen I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.<\/em>\u201d<\/em>   Heaven and earth will not become nothingness but to something new, blessed by the light and presence if God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayerfully, we study the passing of that first earth according to revelation given to “God\u2019s messenger,” <\/em>Malachi. It will be horrendous, says the prophet, a fiery oven consuming everything together with the proud evildoers. Instead, those who have lived in the way of justice will be bathed in the warm healing light of that new earth. “Thus says the LORD of hosts.” <\/em>Therefore, best for us to be always ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St. Paul as always, urges the brethren, and us too, his brothers and sisters in faith, not to hide behind the threat of the end days, but like him, accept their share of work and work also toward eternal life. It would be presumptuous for us to put everything in the hands of God and lazily just sit back in a false notion of God\u2019s final blessing and not do our share of work of following in the Lord\u2019s way as did Paul.  Some were going so far hiding behind religion that Paul exclaimed, \u201cif anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.<\/em>\u201d Good Christians must do their part contributing to the life of their community, not depending on others\u2019 work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St. Luke offers final advice as this liturgical year comes to an end. He invoked in detail the end days as described by Jesus Himself. It seemed Jesus spoke of the ruin of the glorious Jerusalem Temple, but it was Passion week, and the Temple He would offer was his life for us. His mind leapt to His second coming at the end of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What did Jesus envision? That antichrists would come claiming they were Him; that there would be wars and revolutions, then a lull and more wars; there would be earthquakes, famine, plagues; fearsome signs in the sky; his disciples would suffer persecution, prison, even death, but not be destroyed. Despite all, \u201cBy your perseverance you will secure your lives!\u201d  <\/em>And see Heb 9:28:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dChrist will appear a second time to bring salvation to those who eagerly await <\/em>him.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

El Se\u00f1or viene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Un d\u00eda el tiempo terminar\u00e1; habr\u00e1 un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva. As\u00ed la voz de Dios se revel\u00f3 desde su trono al amado ap\u00f3stol san Juan (cf. Ap 21, 1-5ss): \u201cVi un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva. El cielo anterior y la tierra anterior hab\u00edan pasado, y el mar ya no exist\u00eda.<\/em>\u201d  <\/em>El cielo y la tierra no se convertir\u00e1n en nada, sino en algo nuevo, bendecido por la luz y la presencia de Dios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Con esp\u00edritu de oraci\u00f3n, estudiamos el paso de esa primera tierra seg\u00fan la revelaci\u00f3n dada al ‘mensajero de Dios’, <\/em>Malaqu\u00edas. Ser\u00e1 horrendo, dice el profeta, un horno ardiente que lo consumir\u00e1 todo junto con los malhechores orgullosos. En cambio, aquellos que han vivido en el camino de la justicia ser\u00e1n ba\u00f1ados en la c\u00e1lida luz sanadora de esa nueva tierra. ‘As\u00ed dice el Se\u00f1or de los ej\u00e9rcitos’. <\/em>Por lo tanto, lo mejor para nosotros es estar siempre listos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

San Pablo, como siempre, exhorta a los hermanos, y tambi\u00e9n a nosotros, sus hermanos y hermanas en la fe, a no escondernos detr\u00e1s de la amenaza del fin de los d\u00edas, sino que, como \u00e9l, aceptemos su parte de trabajo y trabajemos tambi\u00e9n hacia la vida eterna. Ser\u00eda presuntuoso de nuestra parte poner todo en las manos de Dios y perezosamente simplemente sentarnos en una falsa noci\u00f3n de la bendici\u00f3n final de Dios y no hacer nuestra parte del trabajo de seguir el camino del Se\u00f1or como lo hizo Pablo.  Algunos iban tan lejos escondi\u00e9ndose detr\u00e1s de la religi\u00f3n que Pablo exclam\u00f3: “<\/em>Si alguno no quiere trabajar, que tampoco coma. <\/em>“Los buenos cristianos deben hacer su parte contribuyendo a la vida de su comunidad, no dependiendo del trabajo de otros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al final de este a\u00f1o lit\u00fargico, San Lucas nos ofrece un consejo final. Invoc\u00f3 en detalle los \u00faltimos d\u00edas descritos por Jes\u00fas mismo. Parec\u00eda que Jes\u00fas hablaba de la ruina del glorioso Templo de Jerusal\u00e9n, pero era la semana de la Pasi\u00f3n, y el Templo que ofrecer\u00eda era su vida por nosotros. Su mente salt\u00f3 a Su segunda venida al final de los tiempos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 imagin\u00f3 Jes\u00fas? Que los anticristos vendr\u00edan clamando que eran \u00c9l; que habr\u00eda guerras y revoluciones, luego una pausa y m\u00e1s guerras; habr\u00eda terremotos, hambruna, plagas; se\u00f1ales temibles en el cielo; Sus disc\u00edpulos sufrir\u00edan persecuci\u00f3n, prisi\u00f3n, incluso la muerte, pero no destruidos. A pesar de todo, “\u00a1Con vuestra perseverancia asegurar\u00e9is vuestras vidas!”  <\/em>Y ver Heb 9:28:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
