Centred on the theme “Participatory Models of Higher Education,” the gathering will bring together more than 60 leaders and educators from across South Asia to explore collaborative pathways for the future of higher learning.

This year’s conference stands out for its Synodal and Salesian facilitation approach, integrating the Knowledge Café methodology—a dynamic, conversation-driven process that promotes shared learning and collective decision-making. Coordinated by Dr. Fr. George Thadathil from the Youth Ministry Sector – IUS Rome, the methodology is designed to foster “deeper understanding, mutual respect, and innovative thinking among participants.”

A key component of the event is the use of Open Space Technology, a facilitation format that emphasizes dialogue over debate. The Knowledge Café structure, known for its informal yet impactful style, will shape the core sessions. Participants will rotate through small-group conversations centered on purpose-driven questions, aiming to draw out collective wisdom rather than individual viewpoints. This approach echoes the Salesian commitment to co-responsibility, youth participation, and synodality.

The thematic discussions will address some of the most urgent issues in contemporary higher education. Topics include the role of AI in academia, led by Dr. Glenn Shive; student welfare and mental health, facilitated by Mr. Shirish Sebastian; and strategic innovation and leadership, guided by Mr. Mark Pixley and Dr. Tomy Kallarakal. Key elements of the Knowledge Café—such as rotating groups, reflective listening, and the absence of formal documentation—will encourage candid and meaningful exchanges.

The conference will open with an inaugural address by Fr. Clive Justin Telles, Provincial of Panjim, followed by messages from Dr. Fr. Biju Michael, Regional Councillor for South Asia, and Fr. Rafael Bejarano, Councillor for Youth Ministry.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will feature DBHEI activity reports, financial updates, and the election of new office bearers.

The event will conclude with a valedictory ceremony featuring messages from Dr. Fr. Jose Koyickal and Dr. Fr. P.D. Johny, followed by the presentation of faculty and NAAC awards, marking the close of a conference designed to inspire renewed commitment to participatory, mission-driven higher education.

Source: Don Bosco South Asia

(ANS – Panjim) – The Don Bosco Higher Education South Asia (DBHEI) Annual Conference and General Body Meeting 2025 will convene from November 18 to 20 in Panjim, Goa, hosted by the Salesian Province of Panjim.
