Established by&nbsp;<strong>Pope Paul VI in 1967<\/strong>&nbsp;and first celebrated in 1968, the day invites people everywhere to reflect on the shared responsibility of building peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For 2026,&nbsp;<strong>Pope Leo XIV<\/strong>&nbsp;has chosen the theme&nbsp;<em>\u201cPeace be with you all: Towards an \u2018unarmed and disarming\u2019 peace.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;The theme calls on humanity to reject violence and war and to embrace an authentic peace rooted in love and justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSalesian missionaries provide social development and educational programs to youth and families living in poverty, regardless of gender, race, or religion,\u201d said&nbsp;<strong>Fr Michael Conway<\/strong>, director of Salesian Missions. \u201cBy helping young people gain education, life skills, and employment opportunities, these programs empower youth to build confidence and contribute to peaceful communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To mark the&nbsp;<strong>Catholic World Day of Peace 2026<\/strong>, Salesian Missions highlights several programs that address the social and economic needs of youth and promote peaceful, supportive environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Central African Republic<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In&nbsp;<strong>Bangui<\/strong>, Salesian missionaries equipped a medical clinic with essential supplies through a humanitarian shipment funded by Salesian Missions and&nbsp;<strong>Don Bosco Foundation Paris<\/strong>, in collaboration with&nbsp;<strong>Collaboration Sant\u00e9 Internationale<\/strong>&nbsp;of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shipment included hospital beds, neonatal incubators, exam tables, medicines, first\u2011aid supplies, and vitamins. The clinic itself was completed with funding from the French government through Don Bosco Foundation Paris, with Salesian Missions supporting logistics and funding based on its global humanitarian experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>India<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In&nbsp;<strong>Maharashtra<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra<\/strong>&nbsp;implemented a&nbsp;<em>Solar Home Lighting<\/em>&nbsp;initiative to address energy deprivation among migrant families, with donor funding from Salesian Missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project provided&nbsp;<strong>55 families<\/strong>&nbsp;with safe and reliable solar lighting, replacing unsafe and illegal power connections. Improved lighting has enhanced children\u2019s ability to study, increased household safety, reduced energy costs, and supported small income\u2011generating activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Rwanda<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At&nbsp;<strong>Don Bosco Muhazi Technical and Vocational School<\/strong>, donor funding from Salesian Missions supported&nbsp;<strong>260 students<\/strong>&nbsp;through food assistance and essential supplies. Fifty students living off campus also received hygiene kits and rent support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This assistance helped students from remote and disadvantaged backgrounds focus on their studies, reduced dropout risks, and strengthened hope and stability within the school community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Syria<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In&nbsp;<strong>Aleppo<\/strong>, Salesians supported children at two orphanages\u2014one Armenian and one Muslim\u2014housing&nbsp;<strong>80 children aged 6\u201318<\/strong>, through donor funding from Salesian Missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program provided psychosocial support, educational and recreational activities, counseling services, and essential material assistance.
