Fabio Attard, 11th Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation, elected on March 25, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recognition was awarded as a sign of esteem for his extraordinary educational, pastoral, and cultural commitment, as well as for the deep bond that unites Chieri with the Salesian tradition and the spiritual heritage of St. John Bosco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The celebration took place in a church filled to capacity with the faithful, civil authorities, and members of the Salesian Family, in an atmosphere of lively and heartfelt participation. The Chieri City Council unanimously approved the conferral of honorary citizenship, accepting the proposal put forward by the Salesian Institute San Luigi<\/em>. This recognition continues a tradition that has seen the same honor previously bestowed on former Rectors Major Fr. Pascual Ch\u00e1vez Villanueva and Fr. \u00c1ngel Fern\u00e1ndez Artime, both honorary citizens of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official ceremony took place in the context of the Feast of St. John Bosco, a moment particularly dear to the city of Chieri, which is deeply connected to the years of formation of the Saint of Youth. On this occasion, Fr. Fabio Attard presided over the solemn Holy Mass in the Cathedral, offering a profound and timely reflection on Don Bosco\u2019s charism in his homily entitled \u201cA Call to Attentive Listening and a Generous Response.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his message, the Rector Major strongly recalled Don Bosco\u2019s vocational experience, which arose from his deep listening to reality and his docility to God\u2019s call. He highlighted how the Salesian mission emerged from a response that seemed \u201cimpossible,\u201d yet was made fruitful through trust in Providence, human and spiritual accompaniment, and an unshakable hope in the integral growth of young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the conclusion of the Eucharistic celebration, the official conferral of Honorary Citizenship took place, accompanied by the presentation of the formal certificate. The text of the recognition highlights Fr. Fabio Attard\u2019s commitment \u201cto serving younger generations throughout the world,\u201d his fidelity to Don Bosco\u2019s charism, and his contribution to promoting the values of welcome, solidarity, and hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
