In a decree published on February 13, the Holy Father reaffirmed the importance of the Church giving special attention to children, in continuity with the intention expressed by his predecessor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, with the aim of \u201cfostering greater synergies\u201d and ensuring more effective organization of this \u201cnoble initiative,\u201d the decree stipulates that all the committee\u2019s functions will be transferred to the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family, and Life, where it has been integrated since August 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The document also establishes the annulment of the acts and regulations adopted to date by the body, which will cease to have legal effect under both canon and civil law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise, the president, vice president, and other members of the committee are immediately relieved of their duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, it states that the prefect of the dicastery, <strong>Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell<\/strong>, must resolve outstanding matters and submit a final liquidation report to the Secretariat for the Economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pope Francis<\/strong> established this day on December 8, 2023. On that occasion, he announced that the first World Children\u2019s Day would be celebrated worldwide on May 25\u201326, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Subsequently, <strong>Francis<\/strong> established the Pontifical Committee for World Children\u2019s Day and appointed <strong>Father Enzo Fortunato<\/strong>, also director of communications for <strong>St. Peter\u2019s Basilica<\/strong> and head of the press office of the <strong>St. Francis of Assisi Basilica<\/strong>, as its president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next World Children\u2019s Day will be celebrated September 25\u201327 and is expected to be a time of encounter, prayer, and celebration involving children and their families from all over the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This story was first published by <strong>ACI Prensa<\/strong>, the Spanish-language sister service of <strong>EWTN News<\/strong>.
