Fabio Attard, Keys of the City Presented"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(ANS \u2013 <strong>Vallecrosia<\/strong>) \u2013 On the afternoon of <strong>Saturday, March 7, 2026<\/strong>, as part of the celebrations marking <strong>150 years of Salesian presence<\/strong> in the city, the <strong>Municipality of Vallecrosia<\/strong> conferred <strong>honorary citizenship<\/strong> on <strong>Fr. Fabio Attard<\/strong>, <strong>Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation<\/strong> y <strong>11th Successor of Don Bosco<\/strong>. He was also presented with the <strong>keys of the city<\/strong> during a solemn session of the <strong>City Council<\/strong> held in the <strong>Church of Mary Help of Christians<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ceremony, originally scheduled to take place in the courtyard of the <strong>Don Bosco Oratory<\/strong>, was moved to the church due to strong winds, with the permission of the <strong>Bishop of the Diocese of Ventimiglia\u2013Sanremo<\/strong>, <strong>Msgr. Antonio Suetta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The City\u2019s Welcome<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fr. Fabio Attard<\/strong> was welcomed by the <strong>Borghetto San Nicol\u00f2 \u2013 City of Bordighera APS Band<\/strong>, the <strong>flag throwers and musicians of Ventimiglia<\/strong> together with the <strong>Spes group<\/strong>, the <strong>municipal administration<\/strong>, civil, military, and religious authorities, the <strong>Don Bosco Past Pupils<\/strong>, <strong>CNOS-FAP<\/strong>, and numerous local associations, including the <strong>Alpini<\/strong>, <strong>Civil Protection<\/strong>, <strong>Croce Azzurra Misericordia<\/strong>, the <strong>Red Cross<\/strong>, <strong>Croce Verde Intemelia<\/strong>, the <strong>Local Police<\/strong>, <strong>Le Cinque Torri<\/strong>, the <strong>Mariners<\/strong>, and the <strong>Order of the Templars<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In procession from the oratory, participants made their way to the church, where the solemn <strong>City Council session<\/strong> took place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Mayor: \u201cA Gesture of Memory, Gratitude, and Commitment\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Opening the ceremony, <strong>Mayor Fabio Perri<\/strong> stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith this solemn session of the <strong>City Council<\/strong>, the municipal administration and the entire community of <strong>Vallecrosia<\/strong> wish to make a gesture of deep symbolic value.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mayor emphasized that, in celebrating <strong>150 years since Don Bosco\u2019s arrival in Vallecrosia<\/strong>, the city acknowledges the lasting mark left by his educational and human charism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith this act, we intend to express not only esteem and gratitude for his person and mission, but also to reaffirm the strong bond that unites our community with the educational, spiritual, and social values that <strong>Don Bosco<\/strong> has given to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The presentation of the keys, he explained, represents \u201cthe highest sign of welcome and belonging,\u201d a gesture of trust through which the city symbolically opens \u201cits doors and its heart.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recalling a famous phrase of the <strong>Founder of the Salesians<\/strong>\u2014\u201cIt is not enough to love the young; they must know they are loved\u201d\u2014the mayor described the act as \u201cnot only symbolic but a concrete commitment to the future of young people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The motion was <strong>approved unanimously by the City Council<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Opposition: \u201cThe Oratory Is Home\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on behalf of the council group <strong>Cittadini in Comune<\/strong>, <strong>Regional and City Councilor Armando Biasi<\/strong> expressed emotion and gratitude:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen we walk through the doors of the <strong>Oratory<\/strong>, we are at home. The town of <strong>Vallecrosia<\/strong> has found its home in these 150 years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He highlighted three key words that emerged from the <strong>Rector Major\u2019s<\/strong> speeches: <strong>hope, listening, and community<\/strong>, describing the recognition given to the <strong>11th Successor of Don Bosco<\/strong> as fully deserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fr. Attard: \u201cYou Give Me the Key, but for 150 Years You Have Given Us Your Heart\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Visibly moved, <strong>Fr. Fabio Attard<\/strong> accepted the recognition with words of gratitude:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs I listened to your words, my gaze was directed to our father and teacher, <strong>Don Bosco<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He thanked the authorities and citizens, reaffirming that <strong>young people are the reason for our existence<\/strong>, and entrusting three key words to those present: <strong>gratitude, determination, and journeying together<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEvery presence is a reflection of the identity of the <strong>Congregaci\u00f3n Salesiana<\/strong> and the <strong>Salesian Family<\/strong>: we must continue to be servants of the young,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have only one goal: <strong>to educate young people<\/strong>. We need everyone, beyond political alliances, religious identity, or ethnic background.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accepting the honorary citizenship on behalf of the <strong>Salesian Family<\/strong>, he concluded with words that received prolonged applause:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou give me the key, but for <strong>150 years<\/strong> you have given us your heart. Let us look to the future with hope and optimism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Institutions: A Shared Recognition<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Numerous institutional representatives also addressed the gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>President of the Province of Imperia<\/strong>, <strong>Claudio Scajola<\/strong>, recalled the region\u2019s vocation as a borderland and the educational role of the <strong>Salesians<\/strong> in forming new generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Regional Councilor Marco Scajola<\/strong>, present together with several regional councilors, highlighted the importance of the work carried out by <strong>CNOS<\/strong> in promoting inclusion and guiding young people into the workforce: \u201cReach out to those young people whom we otherwise risk losing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Senator Gianni Berrino<\/strong> emphasized the value of <strong>humility<\/strong> as an educational principle, while <strong>Deputy Prefect Anna De Paola<\/strong> thanked <strong>Fr. Attard<\/strong> for the lessons he shared with young people and adults during the days of his visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Voice of the Salesian Church and the Diocese<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Parish Priest, Fr. Simone Indiati<\/strong>, highlighted the atmosphere of volunteerism and service that marked the celebrations: \u201cI saw so much affection for <strong>Don Bosco<\/strong> in this town.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Salesian Provincial, Fr. Roberto Colameo<\/strong>, reiterated the importance of shared responsibility between <strong>Salesians and lay collaborators<\/strong>: \u201cWe Salesians are nothing without young people and without the laity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bishop Antonio Suetta<\/strong> described the <strong>150 years<\/strong> as \u201ca treasure chest of immeasurable gifts,\u201d recalling that <strong>Don Bosco<\/strong> came to <strong>Vallecrosia<\/strong> \u201cin a spirit of pure generosity,\u201d a spirit that continues today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Celebration That Continues<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the conclusion of the ceremony, the city continued the festivities with <strong>games, performances, and entertainment<\/strong>, bringing to a close three days of celebration that united <strong>memory, gratitude, and commitment to younger generations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the conferral of <strong>honorary citizenship<\/strong> on <strong>Fr.
