(ANS \u2013 Mahajanga)<\/strong> \u2013 Students at the Salesian Technical and Vocational Center<\/strong> in Mahajanga, Madagascar<\/strong>, will soon benefit from newly constructed facilities, made possible through funding from Salesian Missions<\/strong>, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco<\/strong>. Construction began in March 2025<\/strong> and is currently ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will serve 400 students<\/strong>, including those from the Salesian community<\/strong> as well as young people from the surrounding areas who will have access to the center\u2019s educational programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TAFITA Enterprise<\/strong> is responsible for building the ground and first floors of the facility. The Salesian community<\/strong> has contributed additional resources to cover expenses such as material transport, water, electricity, and other construction necessities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Salesian explained, \u201cThis project is essential for the education of youth in the region. There is limited access to high-quality vocational and technical training, so young people can learn skills needed for employment. We had more students than the current center could accommodate, and we need to expand to meet the needs of the community. Once completed, this construction project will allow us to provide better education to more students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salesian missionaries<\/strong> operate 11 centers and work in several locations across Madagascar<\/strong>, including the Don Bosco House in Ivato<\/strong>, on the outskirts of Antananarivo<\/strong>. The Salesians<\/strong> have been serving Ankililoaka<\/strong> since 1982, building schools, churches, and a youth center, all to ensure quality education and that no student is left behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madagascar<\/strong> is among the world\u2019s poorest countries, with 70% of its nearly 19 million residents living in poverty. Of these, 5.7 million are youth between the ages of 10 and 24, according to UNICEF<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
