The Resurrection of Jesus is narrated in each of the four Gospels, and no account is the same as another. No one saw Jesus as He rose. It is evident from all four accounts that the tomb was empty, and Jesus was gone. Beyond that, it is well to accept that, naturally, the same account told by four different people will have its differences, and the women who were listened to by the evangelists had their own impressions. Thus, no need to be overly troubled by the differences. They can be treated as normal reactions of extremely excited people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matthew\u2019s early account at the Easter Vigil is truly dramatic. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, [mother of James and John?] go to the tomb with spices to finish the burial of Jesus. They are startled by an earthquake, and an angel garbed in heavenly light appeared and rolled back the stone at the entrance to the tomb. The angel told the women not to fear, for \u201cI know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said.\u201d They ran to tell the disciples, and Jes\u00fas appeared to them, saying, \u201cDo not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.\u201d Thus, we receive the awesome news from Matthew, \u201cJesus is risen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Mass on Easter Day, the priest may choose any of the four Gospel accounts. A favorite is that of St. John. From elsewhere, we know that one of the women who went early to the tomb, quite likely, was John\u2019s mother. Surely, she had shared her Easter Day experience, and he was about to share his own. However, he began to write content not to mention his mother but Mary Magdalen alone: It was she \u201cearly in the morning, while it was still dark,\u201d that went to the tomb and found the stone over the entrance rolled back and the tomb empty. She ran to tell Peter, reporting the empty tomb. Peter and the faster John rushed to see. Peter entered, followed by John. They found only the burial cloths. \u201cHe [John] saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.\u201d So ends the Easter Sunday Gospel of John. Such remains our Easter Faith that has persisted for two thousand years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Said Jesus, \u201cBlessed are those who have not seen and have believed.\u201d ALLELUIA! AMEN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jes\u00fas Ha Resucitado<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

La Resurrecci\u00f3n de Jes\u00fas est\u00e1 narrada en cada uno de los cuatro Evangelios, y ning\u00fan relato es igual que otro. Nadie vio a Jes\u00fas cuando resucit\u00f3. Es evidente en los cuatro relatos que la tumba estaba vac\u00eda y Jes\u00fas se hab\u00eda ido. M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de eso, es bueno aceptar que, naturalmente, el mismo relato contado por cuatro personas diferentes tendr\u00e1 sus diferencias, y las mujeres que fueron escuchadas por los evangelistas tuvieron sus propias impresiones. Por tanto, no hay necesidad de preocuparse demasiado por las diferencias. Pueden tratarse como reacciones normales de personas extremadamente excitadas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El relato temprano de Mateo en la Vigilia Pascual es realmente dram\u00e1tico. Mar\u00eda Magdalena y la otra Mar\u00eda, [\u00bfmadre de Santiago y Juan?] van a la tumba con especias para terminar el entierro de Jes\u00fas. Se sobresaltan por un terremoto y aparece un \u00e1ngel vestido de luz celestial que echa la piedra hacia atr\u00e1s en la entrada de la tumba. El \u00e1ngel les dijo a las mujeres que no temieran porque “S\u00e9 que est\u00e1is buscando a Jes\u00fas el Crucificado. No est\u00e1 aqu\u00ed, porque ha sido resucitado tal y como dijo.” \u00a0Corrieron a avisar a los disc\u00edpulos, y Jes\u00fas se les apareci\u00f3 diciendo: “No teng\u00e1is miedo. Ve y dile a mis hermanos que vayan a Galilea, y all\u00ed me ver\u00e1n.” As\u00ed recibimos la noticia tan maravillosa de Mateo: “Jes\u00fas ha resucitado.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En la misa del D\u00eda de Pascua, el sacerdote puede elegir cualquiera de los cuatro relatos del Evangelio. Una de las favoritas es la de San Juan. Desde otro lugar sabemos que una de las mujeres que fue temprano a la tumba probablemente fue la madre de Juan. Seguramente ella hab\u00eda compartido su experiencia del D\u00eda de Pascua, y \u00e9l estaba a punto de compartir la suya. Sin embargo, empez\u00f3 a escribir contento de no mencionar a su madre, sino solo a Mar\u00eda Magdalena: Fue ella “temprano por la ma\u00f1ana, mientras a\u00fan estaba oscuro” quien fue a la tumba y encontr\u00f3 la piedra sobre la entrada movida y la tumba vac\u00eda. Corri\u00f3 a informar a Pedro sobre la tumba vac\u00eda. Pedro y el m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido Juan corrieron a ver. Pedro entr\u00f3, seguido por Juan. Solo encontraron las telas funerarias. “\u00c9l [Juan] vio y crey\u00f3. Porque a\u00fan no entend\u00edan la Escritura de que ten\u00eda que resucitar de entre los muertos.” As\u00ed termina el Evangelio de Juan del Domingo de Pascua. As\u00ed permanece nuestra Fe Pascual que ha perdurado durante dos mil a\u00f1os. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
