{"id":31552,"date":"2026-06-05T16:40:36","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T23:40:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salesianbulletin.org\/?p=31552"},"modified":"2026-06-05T16:48:34","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T23:48:34","slug":"alfonso-bauer-sdb-ordained-bishop-of-the-diocese-of-florida-durazno","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salesianbulletin.org\/es\/2026\/06\/05\/alfonso-bauer-sdb-ordained-bishop-of-the-diocese-of-florida-durazno\/","title":{"rendered":"Alfonso Bauer, SDB, Ordained Bishop of the Diocese of Florida-Durazno"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(ANS \u2013 Florida) \u2013 During an emotional celebration held on <strong>May 31, 2026<\/strong>, at the <strong>Cathedral Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of the Thirty-Three<\/strong>, the <strong>Diocese of Florida-Durazno<\/strong> witnessed a memorable event with the episcopal ordination and installation of <strong>Bishop Alfonso Bauer<\/strong>, a Salesian of Don Bosco, as its fifth bishop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The celebration was presided over by the <strong>Cardinal Archbishop of Montevideo<\/strong>, Salesian <strong>Cardinal Daniel Sturla<\/strong>, whose archdiocese is the metropolitan see of the <strong>Diocese of Florida-Durazno<\/strong>. On this occasion, he emphasized that <strong>Bishop Alfonso Bauer<\/strong> is the first bishop ordained in Uruguay since the beatification of <strong>Bishop Jacinto Vera<\/strong>, the first bishop of Montevideo, who was beatified in <strong>May 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the sacred rite, <strong>Cardinal Sturla<\/strong> conferred upon <strong>Bishop Bauer<\/strong> the symbols of the episcopacy: the anointing with sacred chrism, the episcopal ring, and the miter. Subsequently, <strong>Bishop Mart\u00edn P\u00e9rez Scremini<\/strong>, Bishop Emeritus of Florida-Durazno, presented him with the crosier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the conclusion of the celebration, <strong>Bishop Bauer<\/strong> offered words of gratitude to all those present and to the many people who have accompanied him throughout his priestly ministry and personal journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ceremony was attended by all of the new bishop\u2019s family members\u2014including his mother\u2014as well as numerous civil and religious authorities and a large gathering of the faithful who filled the church to witness this event of great significance, not only for the faithful of the <strong>Diocese of Florida-Durazno<\/strong>, but for the entire <strong>Catholic Church in Uruguay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bishop Alfonso Bauer<\/strong> was born on <strong>July 23, 1968<\/strong>, made his first religious profession as a <strong>Salesian of Don Bosco<\/strong> el <strong>January 31, 1988<\/strong>, and was ordained a priest on <strong>November 16, 1996<\/strong>, in <strong>Montevideo<\/strong>. For the <strong>Salesian St. Joseph Province of Uruguay (URU)<\/strong>, he has held various responsibilities, including Provincial Councilor (2003\u20132008; 2012\u20132017); Delegate for Youth Ministry and Vocations Ministry (2004\u20132006), Vocations Ministry (2006\u20132008), and Formation (2008\u20132009); Vice Provincial (2012\u20132017); and Provincial (2018\u20132024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time of his episcopal appointment by <strong>Pope Leo XIV<\/strong>, he was serving as Rector and Novice Director of the <strong>Novitiate of the Salesian Provinces of the Southern Cone of America<\/strong>, based in <strong>Montevideo<\/strong> (2024\u20132026). <strong>Bishop Bauer<\/strong> also served as Vice President (2018\u20132021) and President (2021\u20132025) of the <strong>Conference of Religious of Uruguay<\/strong>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(ANS \u2013 Florida) \u2013 During an emotional celebration held on May 31, 2026, at the Cathedral Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of the Thirty-Three, the Diocese of Florida-Durazno witnessed a memorable event with the episcopal ordination and installation of Bishop Alfonso Bauer, a Salesian of Don Bosco, as its fifth bishop.
