Sacred Scripture today takes us back two thousand years to the time of Christ, and another two thousand years further to God\u2019s revelation to Moses on Mount Sinai. Our prayer of reverence to God on this Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time reaches back more than four thousand years!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our passage from Exodus is governed by one enormous word: \u201cIF.\u201d God declared the children of Israel to be His chosen flock and promised that they would remain His kingdom: \u201cIf you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my special possession.\u201d The closeness of our relationship with God and our love for Him are determined by how well we obey Him. Saint John confirms this: \u201cFor the love of God is this, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.\u201d For us, who seek to be faithful and obedient, the psalmist repeats a reminder: \u201cWe are His people, the sheep of His flock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continuing along this path, Saint Paul urged the Romans in another way to remain faithful to their conversion. He called them to an unwavering awareness of WHO and HOW they\u2014and we\u2014have been turned away from sin and evil toward joy and blessing before God. By whom? By the only-begotten and beloved Son, the Word of God, immortal by nature, yet who in obedience to His Father assumed our mortal human nature. And HOW did He atone for our sins and reconcile us with the Father? By enduring every sting of rejection and the sufferings of His terrible Passion, even His humble death on a Cross, making atonement for the sins of the past, present, and future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus chose not to speak or act alone. Thus, at the beginning of Matthew\u2019s Gospel, He called Matthew, a collector of Roman taxes\u2014a scandal in the eyes of the Pharisees. Then Jesus forgave a paralytic\u2019s sins before healing him, which provoked even greater outrage. Nevertheless, Matthew went on to list the twelve Apostles. He placed himself alongside Thomas the skeptic and did not hesitate to call Judas a traitor. In spite of everything, Jesus shared His mission with them. He sent them forth and commanded them: \u201cAs you go, make this proclamation: \u2018The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.\u2019 Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons.\u201d They had received freely; they were to give freely. Jesus was not selfish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El Reino est\u00e1 a Mano<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

La Sagrada Escritura hoy nos lleva dos mil a\u00f1os atr\u00e1s, al tiempo de Cristo, y otros dos mil a\u00f1os m\u00e1s a la revelaci\u00f3n de Dios en el Sina\u00ed a Mois\u00e9s. \u00a1Nuestra oraci\u00f3n de reverencia a Dios se remonta este und\u00e9cimo domingo en Tiempo Ordinario, cuatro mil a\u00f1os y m\u00e1s!\u00a0
Nuestro pasaje del \u00c9xodo est\u00e1 regido por una enorme palabra: “SI”. Dios declar\u00f3 a los hijos de Israel como su reba\u00f1o elegido y seguir\u00eda siendo su Reino, “SI escuch\u00e1is mi voz y manten\u00e9is mi pacto, ser\u00e9is mi posesi\u00f3n especial.” La cercan\u00eda de nuestra relaci\u00f3n con Dios y nuestro amor por \u00c9l est\u00e1 determinada por lo bien que le obedecemos.\u00a0San Juan confirma esto: “Por amor de Dios, es este: guardamos sus mandamientos. Y sus mandamientos no son una carga.” Para nosotros, que somos tranquilos y obedientes, el salmista repite un recordatorio: “Somos su pueblo: las ovejas de su reba\u00f1o.”

Continuando el camino, San Pablo inst\u00f3 a los romanos por otro medio a permanecer fieles a su conversi\u00f3n. Llam\u00f3 a una conciencia infalible de QUI\u00c9N y C\u00d3MO ellos y nosotros nos desviamos del pecado y el mal hacia la alegr\u00eda y la bendici\u00f3n ante Dios. \u00bfPor qui\u00e9n? Por el Hijo unig\u00e9nito y amado, la Palabra de Dios. Inmortal, pero en obediencia a Su Padre asumi\u00f3 la naturaleza mortal de la humanidad. \u00bfY C\u00d3MO expi\u00f3 nuestros pecados y nos reconcili\u00f3 con el Padre? Soportando cada punzada de rechazo y de Su terrible Pasi\u00f3n, incluso su muerte humilde en una Cruz, expiando pecados pasados, presentes y futuros.\u00a0

Jes\u00fas decidi\u00f3 no hablar ni actuar solo. Por eso, al principio del Evangelio de Mateo, Jes\u00fas le llam\u00f3 a trav\u00e9s de un recaudador romano de impuestos, lo que fue un esc\u00e1ndalo para los fariseos. Entonces Jes\u00fas perdon\u00f3 a un paral\u00edtico sus pecados antes de sanarlo. Esto caus\u00f3 a\u00fan m\u00e1s furia. Sin embargo, Mateo, sin dudarlo, continu\u00f3 enumerando a los doce Ap\u00f3stoles. A pesar de todo, Jes\u00fas comparti\u00f3 su misi\u00f3n con ellos. Mateo se coloc\u00f3 junto a Tom\u00e1s el cr\u00edtico, y no dud\u00f3 en llamar traidor a Judas. Jes\u00fas los envi\u00f3 y orden\u00f3: “Mientras vais, haced esta proclamaci\u00f3n: ‘El reino de los cielos est\u00e1 cerca.’ Curar a los enfermos, resucitar a los muertos, limpiar leprosos, expulsar demonios.” Lo hab\u00edan recibido libremente. Deber\u00edan dar libremente. Jes\u00fas no era ego\u00edsta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
