Dear Friends in Catholic Education,

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Salesians of Don Bosco are delighted to announce the start of a new management partnership that will amplify St. John Bosco High School\u2019s (SJBHS) position as a premier Catholic college preparatory center for young men.

Beginning July 1, the Department of Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will implement an innovative collaborative management model designed to enhance educational opportunities for students, strengthen operational effectiveness, and expand the Salesians’ capacity to focus on spiritual formation and the school’s Catholic mission. A 12-month transition plan is now underway and will be fully implemented by June 30, 2027.

St. John Bosco High School is thriving, enjoying strong enrollment, robust faith formation, excellence in academic achievement, competitive athletics, numerous extracurricular programs, and an ever-loyal alumni community. The Salesians welcomed this partnership as they explored innovative management models that more fully aligned with their long-term vision for the 86-year-old school.

A stronger bond with the archdiocese means more opportunities for SJBHS students through financial aid, while opening doors to new philanthropic relationships to support campus renovations, scholarships, workforce, and academic, enrichment and faith formation programs.

The school’s identity and commitment to the charism of St. John Bosco will remain as strong as ever as the Salesian community will continue its vital mission of inspiring lifelong learning, faith, service, and leadership in its students and alumni for generations to come.

Beginning July 1, 2026, the DCS will oversee day-to-day operational management of the school. The Board, led by the Salesians, will remain responsible for strategic oversight and for spreading and strengthening the charism of Don Bosco throughout the school community. The 12-month transition period began on July 1, 2026 and will be fully implemented by July 1, 2027. The transition team, composed of officials from both the Department of Catholic Schools (DCS) and the Salesians, will be reviewing current operations, curricula, and finances as part of a multiphase process. This process will include the appointment of a new school president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How will this impact the school\u2019s mission, culture, and traditions?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school\u2019s mission and day-to-day life on campus will remain the same for students, teachers, staff, and families. The commitment to St. John Bosco\u2019s educational philosophy will remain as strong as ever, as the Salesian community will continue its vital mission of inspiring lifelong learning, faith, service, and leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will the Salesian religious (priests and brothers) still be part of the school?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, the Salesians will remain as a vital presence in the school community; the new partnership will increase their capacity to cultivate spiritual formation. They also will remain in certain leadership positions and will retain full ownership of the school property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will the curriculum, class schedules, athletic programs, and extracurriculars change?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

These will remain unchanged in the 2026-27 academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will tuition, scholarships, and\/or student aid be affected in the new school year?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
