Homil\u00eda para la Profesi\u00f3n Perpetua de Jhoni<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

God is good. All the time. All the time. God is good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What a joyful and hopeful occasion today. For you who are present here in Chapalita and for those following us virtually on livestream: Welcome and God\u2019s blessings. This celebration, although it focuses on the perpetual profession and commitment of Bro. Jhoni Chamorro, is really about more than him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dios es bueno. Todo el tiempo. Todo el tiempo. Dios es bueno.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qu\u00e9 ocasi\u00f3n tan alegre y esperanzadora la de hoy. Para ustedes que est\u00e1n presentes aqu\u00ed en Chapalita y para los que nos siguen virtualmente en livestream: Bienvenidos y bendiciones de Dios. Esta celebraci\u00f3n, aunque se centra en la profesi\u00f3n perpetua y el compromiso del Hno. Jhoni Chamorro, en realidad se trata de algo m\u00e1s que solamente \u00e9l.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First and foremost, it is about thanksgiving. We thank God for Jhoni\u2019s Salesian vocation because we all know that the Salesian Society was initiated by the grace of God and that each and everyone of our call to consecrated life comes from God. We heard in today\u2019s first reading from the prophet Jeremiah: \u201cBefore I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En primer lugar, se trata de una acci\u00f3n de gracias. Damos gracias a Dios por la vocaci\u00f3n salesiana de Jhoni porque todos sabemos que la Sociedad Salesiana fue iniciada por la gracia de Dios y que todas y cada una de nuestras llamadas a la vida consagrada vienen de Dios. Escuchamos en la primera lectura de hoy al profeta Jerem\u00edas: “Antes de formarte en el vientre te conoc\u00ed, antes de que nacieras te apart\u00e9; te design\u00e9 como profeta de las naciones”.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We thank his family for the gift of Jhoni, especially their willingness to share his life and giftedness for the Salesian mission and for the greater Salesian Family. I would like to personally acknowledge and thank his mother and immediate family who have joined us virtually in and through the Salesian community in Granada, Nicaragua, the place where the seed of his Salesian vocation was planted and nourished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agradecemos a su familia por el don de Jhoni, especialmente su disposici\u00f3n a compartir su vida y sus dotes para la misi\u00f3n salesiana y para la gran Familia Salesiana. Quisiera reconocer y agradecer personalmente a su madre y a su familia inmediata que se han unido a nosotros virtualmente en y a trav\u00e9s de la comunidad salesiana de Granada, Nicaragua, el lugar donde la semilla de su vocaci\u00f3n salesiana fue plantada y alimentada.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We thank the many Salesians and members of the Salesian Family who through the years have accompanied Jhoni in his discernment and perseverance in his Salesian consecrated life. I acknowledge and thank the Salesians of Don Bosco, especially his teachers and formators, in Granada, Nicaragua, in the the two provinces, East and West, of the United States, and in the province of Mexico, Guadalajara. Thank you for your formation and accompaniment of Jhoni Chamorro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agradecemos a los muchos salesianos y miembros de la Familia Salesiana que a trav\u00e9s de los a\u00f1os han acompa\u00f1ado a Jhoni en su discernimiento y perseverancia en su vida consagrada salesiana. Reconozco y agradezco a los Salesianos de Don Bosco, especialmente a sus maestros y formadores, en Granada, Nicaragua, en las dos provincias, Este y Oeste, de los Estados Unidos, y en la provincia de M\u00e9xico, Guadalajara. <\/strong>Gracias por su formaci\u00f3n y acompa\u00f1amiento a Jhoni Chamorro.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And we thank you, young people, for whom this celebration is a reality today. Young people, this celebration is about you. For without you there is no Salesian mission. Our Salesian Constitutions no. 2 reminds us that \u201cwe are to be in the Church signs and bearers of God\u2019s love for young people, especially those who are poor. As Don Bosco used to say, \u201cFor you (young people) I study, for you I work, for you I am ready to give my life.\u201d It is a great blessing to see so many of you, young people, physically present in this celebration. I also know that many more young people are with us virtually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y damos las gracias a vosotros, j\u00f3venes, por los que esta celebraci\u00f3n es hoy una realidad. J\u00f3venes, esta celebraci\u00f3n tiene que ver con ustedes. Porque sin ustedes no hay misi\u00f3n salesiana. Nuestras Constituciones Salesianas no. 2 nos recuerdan que “hemos de ser en la Iglesia signos y portadores del amor de Dios a los j\u00f3venes, especialmente a los pobres”. Como dec\u00eda Don Bosco: “Por ustedes (los j\u00f3venes) estudio, por ustedes trabajo, por ustedes estoy dispuesto a dar la vida”. Es una gran bendici\u00f3n ver a tantos de ustedes, j\u00f3venes, f\u00edsicamente presentes en esta celebraci\u00f3n. Tambi\u00e9n s\u00e9 que muchos m\u00e1s j\u00f3venes est\u00e1n con nosotros virtualmente.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jhoni, from the beginning you have articulated your desire that this celebration needs to be about young people. The presence of many of them today is a testament that you have embraced the Salesian mission and that you have understood who you are and what you are about as a Salesian of Don Bosco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jhoni, desde el principio has expresado tu deseo de que esta celebraci\u00f3n tenga que ver con los j\u00f3venes. La presencia de muchos de ellos hoy es un testimonio de que has abrazado la misi\u00f3n salesiana y de que has comprendido qui\u00e9nes eres y de qu\u00e9 es como salesiano de Don Bosco.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s readings also remind all of us to reflect with you the significance of today\u2019s celebration. St. Paul, in his letter to the Romans, reminds us that we offer ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. I know that you yourself have made sacrifices over the years, especially with being away from your mother and your family and with being away from your home province of the United States West. But also remember that you continue to be blessed in the presence of the young people here in Guadalajara, to whom you have been sent. It is for them that you do your best to study and to work. Remember as well what you specifically quoted in this booklet from the Gospel of Mark: \u201cIf anyone wishes to be the first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.\u201d To follow Christ takes humility. This is a special day for you, but you are here not because of all your accomplishments; you are here not because of your friendly and cheerful personality; you are not here to be honored and put on a pedestal. No. You are here because you have been called to serve, especially the young and the poor, and you are saying yes forever to that call as a Salesian of don Bosco. And we are here to support you and to accompany you in prayer and in spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Las lecturas de hoy tambi\u00e9n nos recuerdan a todos que debemos reflexionar contigo sobre el significado de la celebraci\u00f3n de hoy. San Pablo, en su carta a los Romanos, nos recuerda que nos ofrecemos como un sacrificio vivo, santo y agradable a Dios. S\u00e9 que t\u00fa mismo has hecho sacrificios a lo largo de los a\u00f1os, especialmente al estar lejos de tu madre y de tu familia y al estar lejos de tu provincia natal del oeste de los Estados Unidos. Pero tambi\u00e9n recuerda que sigues siendo bendecido con la presencia de los j\u00f3venes aqu\u00ed en Guadalajara, a quienes has sido enviado. Es por ellos por los que te esfuerzas en estudiar y trabajar. Recuerda tambi\u00e9n lo que has citado espec\u00edficamente en este folleto del Evangelio de Marcos: “El que quiera ser el primero, ser\u00e1 el \u00faltimo de todos y el servidor de todos”. Seguir a Cristo requiere humildad. Este es un d\u00eda especial para ti, pero no est\u00e1s aqu\u00ed por todos tus logros; no est\u00e1s aqu\u00ed por tu personalidad amable y alegre; no est\u00e1s aqu\u00ed para que te honren y te pongan en un pedestal. No. Est\u00e1s aqu\u00ed porque has sido llamado a servir, especialmente a los j\u00f3venes y a los pobres, y est\u00e1s diciendo s\u00ed para siempre a esa llamada como salesiano de don Bosco. Y nosotros estamos aqu\u00ed para apoyarte y acompa\u00f1arte en la oraci\u00f3n y en el esp\u00edritu.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jhoni, I want to personally thank you for saying yes daily to your Salesian vocation. And I want you to know that it is my honor and privilege to receive your perpetual profession today in the name of the Rector Major, Fr. Angel Fernandez Artime,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jhoni, quiero agradecerte personalmente que hayas dicho s\u00ed cada d\u00eda a tu vocaci\u00f3n salesiana. Y quiero que sepas que es un honor y un privilegio para m\u00ed recibir hoy tu profesi\u00f3n perpetua en nombre del Rector Mayor, el P. \u00c1ngel Fern\u00e1ndez Artime,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what will make this day even more special? That some of you, young people, will also say yes to God\u2019s call to service and ministry in the Church. That some of you who have heard the call to be signs and bearers of God\u2019s love for young, especially the poor, will pray, talk to someone, and have the courage to say yes to that call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pero, \u00bfqu\u00e9 har\u00e1 que este d\u00eda sea a\u00fan m\u00e1s especial? Que algunos de ustedes, j\u00f3venes, tambi\u00e9n dir\u00e1n s\u00ed a la llamada de Dios al servicio y al ministerio en la Iglesia. Que algunos de ustedes, que han escuchado la llamada a ser signos y portadores del amor de Dios por los j\u00f3venes, especialmente por los pobres, recen, hablen con alguien y tengan el valor de decir s\u00ed a esa llamada.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
