Last week marked the commencement of Camp Salesian, the eagerly anticipated summer camp organized by the Salesian Family Youth Center. This first week was filled with an atmosphere of celebration, fostering personal growth, community service, and a deepening understanding of faith. With over 70 enthusiastic volunteers from various high schools in the area, Camp Salesian truly embodied the spirit of giving back to the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s delve into the extraordinary highlights of this remarkable week.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspiring Volunteerism:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The heart of Camp Salesian lies in the dedication and passion of its young volunteers. These remarkable individuals have been diligently preparing since February, striving to make a positive impact on the community. Their unwavering commitment to service and their vibrant energy set the tone for a truly exceptional week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embracing Positivity:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each week at Camp Salesian revolves around a unique theme that resonates with Salesian values. This first week focused on the importance of maintaining a positive outlook in the face of adversity\u2014a theme that profoundly impacted the participants. Through engaging activities, discussions, and reflections, the campers were encouraged to embrace positivity as an essential aspect of their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating Excellence:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camp Salesian concluded the week with the highly anticipated Counselor of the Week and Camper of the Week awards. These recognitions celebrate individuals who embody the spirit of Saint Dominic Savio\u2014exemplary in their commitment, companionship, and kindness. By recognizing their contributions, we reinforce the importance of selflessness and responsibility within our camp community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Unique Celebration:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acknowledging the diverse backgrounds of our camp attendees, we chose to reimagine our traditional Friday Eucharistic Celebration. Instead, we hosted a joyous birthday party, with Jesus as the central figure. The analogy drew parallels between the different parts of a Mass and the festivities of a birthday celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Birthday Party Analogy:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The analogy came alive as campers arrived to the \u201cparty\u201d with cheerful greetings, party music, and vibrant decorations, mirroring the welcoming atmosphere of the entrance rite in Mass. Interactive games and activities allowed campers to participate and share their favorite movie scenes, similar to the liturgy of the Word, where we recall Jesus\u2019 teachings and actions that shape our identities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as a birthday cake symbolizes the celebrant\u2019s effort, love, and sharing, the Eucharist becomes a profound act of communion. Jesus Himself provides the Bread, signifying His presence and love for all participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 A Hopeful Farewell:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the week came to a close, we bid farewell to our campers and wished them a joyful journey ahead. In this final part of the celebration, we emphasized the importance of carrying the spirit of celebration and unity beyond Camp Salesian. Just as we joyfully celebrate the passing of another year for our friend at a birthday party, the Eucharistic celebration unifies us as a community, and we leave with the priest\u2019s blessing to make our lives a reflection of the celebration we shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking Ahead:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forthcoming Friday at Camp Salesian will feature the traditional Eucharistic celebration, building upon the newfound understanding of the different parts of the Mass. Notably, the liturgical moment, where the birthday party analogy was shared, was led by the young people who participated in the Salesian Youth Leadership Conferences a few weeks ago. Their involvement underscores the impact of Salesian education on the youth, shaping their faith and empowering them to lead with compassion and inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camp Salesian continues to foster personal growth, community engagement, and faith formation, providing an unforgettable experience for all participants. We eagerly anticipate the upcoming weeks, where we will deepen our connection with the Eucharistic celebration, accompanied by the heartfelt voices of the young performers from Salesian High School Bishop Mora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
