‘Salesian Family Newsletter’: A New Tool for Communication, Dialogue, and Participation

(ANS – Rome) – It often happens that what begins as a simple experiment or out of practical necessity turns out to be a success, motivating its creators to develop that initial intuition in a broader and more widespread way. This is what recently occurred with the “Salesian Family Newsletter,” a new tool for communication, dialogue, and participation launched by the Secretariat for the Salesian Family.

The first two issues of this unique newsletter were released in recent months to engage participants in the 44th edition of the Salesian Family Spirituality Days and to provide them with practical information to ensure the smooth running of the event.

Now, given the effectiveness of the communication and the positive feedback received, Fr. Joan Lluís Playà, Delegate of the Rector Major for the Salesian Family, and the other members of the Secretariat for the Salesian Family have decided to continue this project. It is designed to facilitate communication and animation among members of the various groups, the Delegates for the Salesian Family, and those who share in the Salesian mission for young people, especially those who are most vulnerable and at risk.

“It will be a simple tool for animation and information, but we hope it will bear fruit in terms of involvement, unity, and harmony,” commented Fr. Playà. “In our meetings, we have often emphasized the importance and charismatic value of networking and working together for the good of young people, and this newsletter serves precisely to promote a clearer vision within the Salesian Family, faster and more widespread information, and greater synergy among all groups.”

The “Salesian Family – Newsletter” is therefore officially launched today, with the first editions in five languages—Italian, English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese—and will be published every two months, in homage to the birthday of the founder of the Salesian Family, St. John Bosco, who was born on August 16.

Furthermore, with the collaboration of the Social Communication Sector of the Salesians of Don Bosco, the newsletter will not only be sent by email, as is customary, but will also be published and shared on the website http://www.famigliasalesiana.org and through social media platforms.

In this first issue, readers are offered the concluding remarks delivered by the Rector Major, Fr. Fabio Attard, at the end and as a summary of the Salesian Family Spirituality Days 2026, together with what is described as the true novelty of this newsletter: the “Family News” page, a space where updates, programs, and information on the main events concerning the various groups of the vast tree that grew from Don Bosco are—and increasingly will be—shared.

For this inaugural issue, the five language versions of the “Salesian Family – Newsletter” are also available to read at the bottom of the page.
