Many of the health hazards that we encounter in our daily lives are well publicized.
Take alcohol for example, our governmental policy and organizations like Mothers against drunk driving, did an excellent job of pointing out the ill consequences of alcohol intake and its harmful dire effect on those who drink and drive. We all get it. The same is true with smoking and its health hazard on your lungs and vascular systems, even though it did take many years for the Surgeon General to be able to label that smoking is harmful on cigarette packages.
However, recently I became aware of a health hazard that we encounter every day. It affects every one of us, from infants to the elders. It is not a virus or a bacteria that you can develop a vaccine for its cure. The impact of INACTIVITY is real! Hence, I am going to spend our time for the upcoming weeks to truly understand this invisible but dangerous health threat.
Let us educate ourselves of this horrible “disease” by understanding:
- What does physical inactivity mean?
- Who is being affected?
- How prevalent is this problem?
- What are the key facts of inactivity?
- What are the risks of inactivity?
- Major health risks associated with inactivity.
- What are the benefits of correcting our inactivity lifestyle?
- How do we get there: from inactive to active lifestyle?
Your home work from the Care Ministry this week:
Ask yourself the question- “Is inactivity a problem for me?
