Salesian Family Youth Center’s Mission Appeal: A Community United in Solidarity

By Luis Chacon

The parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the City of El Monte recently witnessed a powerful display of unity and solidarity during the Mission Appeal conducted by the Salesian Family Youth Center. Over the course of eight masses, Father Fabian SDB, along with Juan Carlos Montenegro and Luis Chacon, shared the inspiring work carried out at the center and rallied the community to support its vital programs.

Fr Fabian, in his impassioned homilies, emphasized the significance of community and the shared responsibility of living out the Salesian mission. “We do not save ourselves alone,” Fr Fabian affirmed, highlighting the importance of collective action in the pursuit of faith and salvation. Motivated by this spirit of togetherness, the parish community was invited to extend their solidarity to the Salesian Family Youth Center.

Juan Carlos Montenegro, CEO of the Salesian Family Youth Center and delegate for missionary animation, shared a poignant experience that showcased the challenges faced by the center. He recounted the incidents where a homeless person had twice damaged a pipeline outside the center, resulting in substantial repair costs amounting to $7,000. Such unexpected expenses strain the center’s resources, potentially limiting their ability to serve families in need. However, the generosity of the people shone through as they rallied together to cover at least half of the repair costs, ensuring the center could continue its invaluable services.

Luis Chacon, coordinator of the Salesian Missionary Volunteer Program, shed light on the vast array of opportunities within the Salesian world to make a positive impact. The heartfelt appeals from the masses resonated with many individuals, who eagerly sought information on how they could contribute to bringing about change in the world. This enthusiasm led to the discovery of potential Salesian Cooperators and Volunteers with Don Bosco, individuals committed to joining the Salesian family in their mission.

The Mission Appeal conducted by the Salesian Family Youth Center at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish was a resounding success, exemplifying the power of unity and compassion. Through the combined efforts of Fr. Fabian, Juan Carlos Montenegro, and Luis Chacon, the community was inspired to support the center’s programs financially, recognizing the invaluable impact it has on the lives of children and families.

The Salesian Family Youth Center serves as a beacon of hope, offering a safe and nurturing environment for young people to grow, learn, and thrive. The tireless dedication of the Salesian Family, along with the unwavering support of the community, ensures that the center can continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most.

As we reflect on the success of the Mission Appeal, let us be inspired by the spirit of community and solidarity that prevailed in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Together, we can continue to support the Salesian Family Youth Center and its mission of transforming lives, fostering faith, and building a brighter future for all.
