United in Service: A Day of Hope with Salesian Volunteers

By Luis Chacon

The Salesian Volunteers, an embodiment of Don Bosco’s mission to serve the less fortunate, embarked on a mission to bring food to those who are homeless and in need. It was a day that showcased the power of collective action, compassion, and the profound impact that a united community can make.

The Restless Hearts Foundation, instrumental in making this event a reality, served as a guiding light. Together with the first-year students of the confirmation group from Saint Dominic Sabio parish, members of the folkloric ballet of St. Mary’s Parish, and our dedicated board of directors and workers from the Salesian Family Youth Center, a beautiful tapestry of volunteers emerged.

But the spirit of unity didn’t stop there. Students from Salesian High School Bishop Mora, individuals from the youth ministry of St. Mary’s Parish, and even international Salesian volunteers joined hands in solidarity. The result? Over 500 butter, peanut, and jelly sandwiches, as well as ham sandwiches were prepared with love and care for our sisters living on the streets of Skid Row.

The Salesian spirit of community and service was alive and well. It was a true testament to the values and teachings of Don Bosco. This event not only provided nourishment for those in need but also exemplified the Salesian principle of uplifting one another through acts of kindness and selflessness.

We must also acknowledge the exceptional dedication and enthusiasm of the young leaders who participated in the Salesian Youth Leadership Conference. Their involvement played a pivotal role in making this event possible. It is a testament to the potential of youth to be leaders of positive change.

As we reflect on this day, we invite all readers to stay connected with the Salesian Volunteers. We believe in the power of community service and encourage you to look out for future volunteer opportunities. Together, we can continue to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those less fortunate. This is a call to action, a plea for unity, and a testament to the enduring spirit of Don Bosco’s mission.

Let’s hold onto the spirit of giving and keep making the world a better place one act of kindness at a time. Together, we can touch more lives and sow the seeds of hope. In unity, there is strength, and in service, there is love.
