Youth Gathering and Vocation Animation

In an age where young people often grapple with questions about their future, two Northern California youth groups gathered together to explore the fascinating and profound topic of vocation. Don Bosco Youth (MHOCC, Stockton) and St. Anthony’s Youth Group (St. Anthony’s, Oakland) had a group gathering on November 5th. Both groups were eager to reconnect with old friends and welcome new faces as well. This gathering sparked meaningful conversations and a sense of unity for our young people.

Both groups began their day by introducing themselves to each other and attending Mass. Mass offered a spiritual experience, with some young attendees actively participating as lectors, Eucharistic ministers, and altar servers. This was a reminder that faith isn’t just about attending Mass, but also about building meaningful relationships with fellow believers.

Afterwards, Fr. Vien coordinated with religious priests, brothers, sisters, and men in formation to be on a panel to discuss their own vocational journeys. These encounters provided valuable insights into the real application of pursuing one’s calling. Our young people heard from panelists about the importance of prayer, having a structured meaningful life, and how to surround themselves with good friendships. Through their own relationships and bonds, we could see the good friendships that surrounded them on this day.

Both youth groups continued the day by joining together in fellowship through competitive games and team activities. So much laughter and smiles were heard and seen throughout all of the activities. This gathering exemplified how fellowship, Mass, and thought-provoking discussions on vocation can empower young Catholics to embrace their faith and embark on a journey of spiritual exploration. Attendees left this event with a renewed purpose, joy, and a sense of unity as they felt they were “one body in Christ”.
