Last Sunday marked a remarkable gathering of nearly 50 young Salesian volunteers who, under the leadership of the Salesian Volunteers Program, dedicated their time from 7 a.m. to noon. This monthly event, aiming to aid those living on Skid Row, exemplifies the Salesian commitment to instilling social justice values in youth.
Noteworthy was the first-time participation of St. Bridget’s Parish youth in Chinatown, joining forces with peers from St. Dominic Savio Parish, Salesian High School Bishop Mora, St. Mary’s Parish Confirmation class, and the SHOUT program from the Salesian Family Youth Center in Roosevelt. This collaborative effort showcased the strength of unity across Salesian communities.
The event achieved a significant impact, providing food for over 600 people, along with blankets, McDonald’s gift cards, and socks. Beyond the immediate assistance, the initiative underscored the importance of mental health for participating youth, encouraging self-reflection.
As we applaud the success of this Sunday’s Salesian Missionary Volunteer Program, we celebrate the dedication of these young volunteers who, through their actions, are contributing to a more compassionate and just society. Their commitment serves as an inspiring example for future generations within the Salesian community.
