LA/SGV Search Ministry Core Team 2025 Retreat: Building Bonds and Opening Doors

By Cynthia Perez, Search Core Team Social Media Secretary

(Los Angeles, California) – On the weekend of January 24-26, 2025, the LA/SGV Search Ministry Core Team 2025 gathered at the Don Bosco Mission Center in Los Angeles for a retreat filled with joy, reflection, and the gentle presence of Christ. Aligning with the Church’s Jubilee Year, rooted in the theme of “Doors,” the team explored Scripture passages like Revelation 3:20, John 10:7, and Matthew 7:7-8. Together, they reflected on how Jesus knocks on the doors of our hearts, inviting us to trust in Him, open ourselves to His love, and follow where He leads—even if it means closing some doors to embrace His better plans.

The retreat was a beautiful blend of laughter, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Through playful pranks and interactive activities, the team deepened their connection with one another, forming a Christ-centered community. Guest speakers shared meaningful insights, including an introduction to the Salesian Oratory Model, which emphasizes walking alongside others in faith. Fr. Shiju, a Salesian Missionary, lovingly reminded the team that leadership is a gift from God—an opportunity to recognize the unique talents He places in each of us and help those gifts shine.

A special moment of the retreat was a visit to the Our Lady of Angels Cathedral, where LA/SGV Search member and Knights on Bikes Vice President Stephan Nijinsky led us on a tour. The Core Team was deeply moved by the cathedral’s breathtaking art and architecture, which offered a profound experience of God’s beauty and an invitation to draw closer to Him.

The theme of “Doors” was reflected not only in Scripture but also in the open hearts and hospitality of places like the Don Bosco Mission Center, which graciously welcomed the ministry. The 13 Core Team members embraced their role as instruments of God’s grace, ready to welcome others through the doors He opens.

United in faith and inspired by His love, the Core Team made their Core Team promises during Mass at St. Joseph’s Salesian Youth Retreat Center on Sunday, January 26, followed by a blessing from Fr. Thien. With their hearts entrusted to Christ, they look forward to leading others to Jesus in 2025. Through weekend retreats and evangelization, they hope to be the hands and feet of Christ, sharing His invitation to trust, follow, and find abundant life in Him.
