(Los Angeles, California) – In a tradition now entering its fourth year, the Salesian Family Youth Center once again recognized young people’s outstanding achievements and leadership through its annual Youth of the Year (YOY) Awards. This ceremony celebrates youth who exemplify the values of compassion, determination, and service, which are deeply rooted in the Salesian mission.

The awards are divided into three categories: Elementary, Junior High, and High School, ensuring that young people of different ages can shine. This year, the center proudly honored Janaeh Cuevas (Elementary), Chris Ara (Junior High), and Hannah Ramírez (High School) for their remarkable achievements and inspiring visions for the future.

A Rigorous Journey to Excellence

The path to becoming the Youth of the Year is no easy feat. Participants undergo a thorough process that includes:

• A Written Application: Applicants must share their personal stories, values, and reasons for deserving the title.
• Recommendations: Candidates submit letters of support from mentors or community leaders.
• An Interview Panel: The final challenge involves an interview with professional judges, who evaluate each youth’s character, ambitions, and potential to inspire others.

Erin Chandler, one of the judges on the panel, spoke about the transformative nature of these interviews.

“I enjoyed watching each youth come into the room in a bundle of nerves, but by the time they left, each one had their own proud confidence emanating from them,” Chandler reflected. “It was fascinating learning about their passions and what they planned to do to achieve their goals. Clearly, they were living out the values instilled by the Salesian Youth Center—manners, kindness, and a desire to make a positive impact in the world.”
