(Los Angeles, California) – At the Don Bosco Mission Center in Boyle Heights, we are committed to addressing the needs of at-risk youth through works of mercy that can deepen their experience of God’s love and foster their full human development. Many groups and organizations live the Gospel by feeding those in need. It is an essential work of mercy, particularly present in Boyle Heights with its proximity to the Skid Row community. As Salesians, we come to know our neighborhood and provide essential resources by addressing the many challenges of homelessness.
We are now on a monthly rotation of feeding and distributing clothing—not only on Skid Row but also locally, just across the street at Hollenbeck Park, where an enclave of unhoused individuals resides. Our next feeding will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2025. We recognize this coincides with the Religious Education Congress, but we are determined to maintain our commitment to serving at least once a month. This date worked best for our dedicated teams— the Cooking & Outreach teams. On that day, we plan to distribute 200 burritos, water, blankets, and coats for those in need.
Volunteers are welcome as we practice the “works of mercy” with those most in need, including the young adults often seen passing through our neighborhood and sometimes on our property in the hope of respite. To do so, please text Ricardo at (909)766-0227.
