Imminent Canonization of Blessed Maria Troncatti: A Joyful Milestone for the Salesian Family

(ANS – Rome) – The Salesian Family worldwide rejoices with immense gratitude and joy at the announcement of the canonization of Blessed Maria Troncatti, a Daughter of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), scheduled to take place on October 19, 2025.

This eagerly awaited announcement was made on June 13, 2025, during the celebration of the Third Hour and the Ordinary Public Consistory for the Canonization of the Blessed, presided over by Pope Leo XIV in the Consistory Hall of the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City. With the consent of the Cardinals, it was confirmed that Blessed Maria Troncatti will be canonized alongside other Blesseds on this momentous date.

A Gift for the Salesian Family and the Universal Church

In a heartfelt letter addressed to the Salesian Sisters and the wider Salesian Family, Mother Chiara Cazzuola, Superior General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), expressed her profound joy, describing the canonization as a “gift for the Universal Church and the Salesian Family.”

Mother Chiara reflected on the extraordinary life and mission of Blessed Maria Troncatti, who was born in Córteno Golgi, Italy, on February 16, 1883, and passed away in Sucúa, Ecuador, on August 25, 1969. As a missionary, mother, and artisan of peace, she dedicated her life to offering reconciliation, healing, and love to those in need.

“This is a moment of thanksgiving,” wrote Mother Chiara, “for the holiness of this courageous Daughter of Mary Help of Christians, whom we remember as a mother, missionary, and peacemaker. Her life was a testimony of love and service, a reflection of God’s presence in the world.”

A Joy Shared across the Salesian Family

Mother Chiara emphasized that this canonization is a source of immense joy for:

  • Córteno Golgi, her birthplace in the diocese of Brescia, where she grew in faith and humanity.
  • Ecuador, the land where Blessed Maria Troncatti lived her missionary vocation with extraordinary dedication and love.
  • The Salesian Family worldwide, for whom she will be the first canonized saint after St. Mary Domenica Mazzarello, the co-foundress of the FMA.

A Call to Gratitude and Preparation

Mother Chiara invites the Salesian Family to view this moment of grace as an opportunity for thanksgiving to God for the marvels He continues to work through the holiness of Don BoscoMother Mazzarello, and the many saints of the Salesian Family. She reminds us that the saints are “companions on our journey,” inspiring us to embrace our vocations with renewed enthusiasm and to live lives of holiness in the ordinariness of daily life.

Expressing her gratitude to those who worked tirelessly to advance the cause of canonization, Mother Chiara acknowledged the contributions of the Postulator General of the Salesian Family, Fr. Pierluigi Cameroni, SDB, and the FMA Sisters who played pivotal roles: Sr. Giuliana Accornero, Sr. Sylwia Ciezkowska, and, in the final phase, Sr. Francesca Caggiano. She also thanked the many others who contributed by gathering documentation and promoting the inspiring life of Blessed Maria Troncatti.

Preparing Spiritually for the Canonization

Mother Chiara concluded her message with an assurance that further communications will follow to provide guidance and directions for full and meaningful participation in this historic event.

The Salesian Family is warmly invited to prepare spiritually and joyfully for this great celebration. This time of preparation is an opportunity to reflect on the life and virtues of Blessed Maria Troncatti, drawing inspiration from her legacy of love, courage, and service.
