Growing Works of Mercy at the Mission Center

Por Judy Álvarez, SC

(Los Angeles, California) – The Mission Center continues its monthly outreach on the last Saturday of every month to those in need of food and clothing. This service is only possible by the increasing collaboration of contributors. The Mission Center is grateful for every volunteer and donor who makes this Salesian Family outreach a reality which continues to grow.

Serving the homeless on Skid Row is sustained by monthly donations from individuals who want to “feed the hungry.” It takes approximately $250 to prepare 300 beef and bean burritos. Those who give may do so by offering food supplies or financial contributions.

The regular preparation of bean and beef burritos is made possible by a dedicated kitchen crew and monthly volunteers whose make this outreach possible. The volunteers can serve beginning with food preparation at 9:30 AM and / or helping with food distribution at Noon in the neighborhood park and on Skid Row.

The Clothing Closet is generously supplied with resources to “clothe those in need.” The processing, organizing, and distribution of these gifts for the needy is an undertaking requiring volunteer assistance which can be offered also during the work week. On Saturday, August 30, the closet will be open in the morning at 9:30 AM for distribution to families in the Boyle Heights area.

Donations and volunteers for these growing works of mercy are always welcome. Please contact Dr. Ricardo Quintero to let him know if there is any way you can serve. You may text him at (909) 766-0227.

“Amen, I say to you, whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, you do to me.” +Jesus
