(ANS – Rome) – In view of the Canonization of Sr. Maria Troncatti, Daughter of Mary Help of Christians, scheduled for next Sunday, October 19, 2025, several Provinces have developed materials to get to know her better, explore the dimensions of her spirituality, and learn from her tireless apostolic commitment. With only a few days to go before the great feast day, getting in touch with these resources can only do good.
The saints are witnesses of faith and humanity to be made known, so that the question arises in the hearts of those who approach them: “If them, why not me?” The holiness of Sr. Troncatti shines in her being a mother to all, a tireless missionary, a daily artisan of peace, as the motto chosen for her canonization states.
To make her known to all age groups – children, preadolescents and young people – the young Sisters of the FMA “Sacra Famiglia” Province of Lombardy, Italy (ILO, Sister Troncatti’s Province of origin), in collaboration with the Postulants in Turin, the Novices in Castel Gandolfo and the Seminary in Milan, have created small aids that can be used during catechesis meetings or for the Good Morning in schools.
Introduced by a reading key for educators and a greeting to the recipients, the document is divided into four parts: a brief biography and a card/proposal for reflection on her faith, her maternity, and her role as a sower of peace. Particularly appreciable is the fact that the aids have been diversified based on the different age groups, with other languages and emphases for each level of human and Christian maturity.
For all these materials, which are accessible to the faithful, devotees and interested parties in Italian, the ILO Province sincerely thanks those who collaborated with passion and care, in particular Fr. Michele Galli, Vice-Rector of the Milan Seminary and Director of “La Fiaccolina,” a history magazine for the young, who made the comic strip created by writer and journalist Ylenia Spinelli available, with drawings by cartoonist Bruno Dolif.
From Latin America, which welcomed Sr. Troncatti as a missionary, the FMA St Rose of Lima Province in Peru (PER) offers a detailed study on the future saint, entitled “Sister Maria Troncatti and Salesian Youth Spirituality.“
This was developed by the Provincial Youth Ministry and Missions teams, designed for young people in various educational settings, including Oratories and Youth Centers, Vocational Centers, Homes, and all those who give dynamism to the Salesian Youth Movement.
Drawn up in three languages – Italian, English and Spanish – it consists of a booklet of seven pages, with an agile formation outlines to guide young people in their personal and community reflection starting from the figure of Sr. Maria, inviting them not only to explore their own story, but also to engage with it, find parallels with their own reality and extract principles that illuminate their own vocational and personal journey, according to the characteristics of Salesian Youth Spirituality.
Salesian Youth Spirituality (SYS) is a concrete way of living the Christian life and striving for holiness, in docility to what the Holy Spirit suggests day by day. The “symbol of the hand” sums up the characteristics of the SYS, which, in the most genuine spirit of Valdocco and Mornese, lead to holiness.
Sr. Troncatti identifies some elements that inspire one to follow a pilgrimage along the demanding but always surprising path of faith: Always Cheerful; With Christ; In the Church; For the world; Like Mary.
These aids are intended to be a tool at the service of the integral formation of boys, girls, and young people, encouraging them to discover in Sr. Troncatti a model of dedication, joy, and fidelity to the Gospel. Her witness, deeply rooted in Salesian Youth Spirituality, invites us to walk in hope, to live authentically, and to respond generously to God’s call in the concrete reality of life.
The hope is that these aids may give rise to courageous and great choices in the hearts of boys, girls, and young people, like the one that reading the Salesian Bulletin provoked in young Maria Troncatti: a life with great horizons, totally given to Jesus and spent for the poor and for peace.
