A Busy Summer of Learning and Research for Bosco Tech Senior Andy Cao

(Rosemead, California) – Whew, it was a busy summer for Bosco Tech senior Andy Cao! He’s been completing summer programs from Harvard, the University of Chicago y UCLA.

A summary of just one experience: Selected from 3,000 applicants, Andy was fortunate to participate in the Harvard OpenBio Lab: Student Research Institute (SRI).

Andy tells us, “Through research, I investigated the epigenetic factors and mechanisms driving breast cancer development and progression, focusing on targeted therapeutic vulnerabilities in tumor cells. I also had the privilege to collaborate with and receive specialized mentorship on advanced computational analysis techniques from a leading mentor affiliated with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard to build my foundational skills in computational biology.”

“The entire research experience has been the best part, and it has been especially fulfilling to pursue work that continued out of and after my research position at UC Berkeley,” where he participated in an earlier program researching the molecular biology of cancer.

A key takeaway for Andy?

“This experience has completely changed my life, my values, and what I’m looking for in finding the ‘right fit’ college for me. This program helped me open up a lot more, and I hope to bring this empowerment and leadership back to campus this fall.”

Andy’s favorite quote, which he says he has been engaging with all summer through his internships and projects, is: “Enjoy being in the process of becoming.”
