Black History Month
For the month of February the Province Youth Ministry Office highlighted the lives of four Black Saints to celebrate Black History Month through our social media handles. These saints are Servant of God Sr. Thea Bowman, St. Josephine Bakhita, Venerable Fr. Augustus Tolton, and Venerable Pierre Toussaint. These holy men and women paved the way for millions and have inspired many. Let’s continue to ask for their intercession so that we may model their examples of faithfulness and perseverance. All you Holy men and women, pray for us!
NFCYM Annual Members Meeting
From Feb 1st through Feb 4th Fr. Fabian and Gina Robles attended the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry Annual Membership Meeting representing the Salesians of Don Bosco USA West. This annual members meeting is an opportunity for members to participate in professional development, networking and communal expressions of faith while working collaboratively together on national projects, identifying, and taking concrete steps to help bring the mission of the National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) to life.
On February 2nd there was a meeting with the counselor for Youth Ministry, Fr.Miguel Angel Garcia and with the Coordinator of the region, Fr. Rafael Bejarano. This meeting was to go over the process and the structure for the new Province Organic Plan 2022-2028.
On February 10th and 11th the Provincial Council invited Andres Neria the Delegate for Social Communication and Gina Robles Youth Ministry Associate to present and share reports and activities on upcoming RE Congress and SYLC.
Salesian Young Adult Gathering
On February 12th, there was a virtual young adult gathering that centered on love and friendship. There were meaningful discussions and prayerful moments of reflection. We ended the night by singing “I’ll be there for you,” which is the FRIENDS show theme song, and we were told to write down a word or phrase that reminded us of friendship. Our next young adult gathering will be in April, stay tuned!
In this third session of Salesian 101, we learned how to read the signs of the times and how to bring the Salesian gifts into this moment. This session was engaging and interactive and provided the space to brainstorm future events for Youth Ministry. This gathering proved to be exciting and reminded everyone of the importance of their roles in youth ministry.
Delegates Meeting (Inter-America and America Cono Sur)
On February 15th and 16th the delegates for two regions in the Americas got together to reflect on “Education for love” A new initiative of the congregation in order to go over the current reality of our young people in regards to sexuality and affectivity and how we as Salesians can accompany them.
On February 16th, there was a Coordinators of Youth Ministry Meeting. The topic of discussion was to go over SYLC registration, cost, schedule, and spirit team.
Virtual RE Congress
The Religious Education Congress was virtual this year. As a Youth Ministry Office, we participated by having a virtual booth and attending the keynotes and workshops. We also had a virtual happy hour with members of our Salesian Family.
Province Animation Team Meeting
On Jan 27, The Province Animation Team (PAT) gathered together. The Provincial, delegates, and the coordinators of the different departments and sectors with the Youth Ministry office, discuss the structure and objectives of the team. The team also discussed plans for the Province Leadership meeting.
Provincial Visitation to East LA Community
On Thursday, February 25th there was a Provincial Visitation that took place in Los Angeles in the East LA Salesian Community. The main components were prayer, readings, and guided meditations on the Frame of Reference. The meeting also included the introduction of what youth ministry and vocations are doing and a reflection and sharing on Salesian Parishes, Salesian Youth Movement and Vocations.
