SYLC 2021 “Moved By Hope”! This years SYLC was one like we never experienced in the past 30 years. After a yearlong of planning, training, and prepping for SYLC we finally where able to come together virtually and in person.
Facilitators where trained and sent out to the various community sites to gather the young people to begin a weeklong conference of leadership training, Salesian spirituality, activities, prayer, and fellowship.
Having SYLC virtually did come with some challenges but also blessings. We had many Salesians from all over the world join the participants in live keynotes such as Fr. Miguel Angel Garcia, General Councilor of Salesian Youth Ministry, Mr. Renato Cursi from Don Bosco International, and Fr. Tom Brennan Former UN Salesian Representative. The participants also where part of live workshops on topics such as “Becoming a Salesian Influencer,” and “Being a Laudato Si Generation.” One highlight was having the Rector Major give the first Salesian Good Night to the participants.
Although we could not gather all the 80 plus young people and adults the Salesian Spirit was ever present virtually. We came together every day listening and watching the energetic MC’s Bro. Damian and Sr. Lindsay! We came together in prayer; we came together in mealtime, and we came together in adoration and reconciliation. We shared our photos of our daily activities and our Salesian Spirit! The days where long but filled with laughter, joy, and optimism.
We want to thank all our facilitators, CYM’s, SDB’s and FMA’s that accompanied the young people during SYLC we could not have done this without all of you. We would also like to thank the team behind the scenes that made this all look so easy on screen. Thank you!
Now, this is just a glimpse of SYLC, next week we will be sharing experiences from our young people and what SYLC meant to them, so stay tune!
Until next year! See you at SYLC 2022!
