Provincial Letter: August 21, 2022

Dear Salesian Family and Salesian Young People:

It has been a very busy but fruitful week of celebration and animation. On the Solemnity of the Assumption on the 15th of August the Province celebrated the First Professions of Brother Michael Tri Loc Nguyen and Brother Thomas Minh-tu Nguyen. In the presence of their families and the many Salesians and members of the Salesian Family both men make their first vows, Michael as a Salesian coadjutor and Thomas as a Salesian cleric. I ask that you continue to pray for them, especially in their perseverance in their Salesian vocation and in their commitment to deepening their Salesian consecration. Both are on their way to Orange, New Jersey, for their Post-novitiate years and further studies at Seton Hall University. We wish them well.

After the Professions the Provincial Council met for two days at De Sales Hall to continue our deliberations in the plan of animation of the the Province. The Provincial Council and I also met with the Province Animation Team in-person on Thursday afternoon and the Directors by Zoom on Friday afternoon.

Our task in all these meetings was to present and reflect together on the Province Organic Plan 2022-2028. The POP, as we call it, was what we, including many of you in the Salesian communities, the Salesian Family and our province ministries, worked on for the past year and a half. It was finalized in our Provincial Chapter in June and fine-tuned by the Editorial Committee led by Fr. John Itzaina. I strongly believe, and many others agree, that the POP turned out very well.

Now the next task in the process is to present the Province Organic Plan in the next couple of months to the entire province, so that we can begin to understand and to integrate what the Provincial Chapter is calling us to do and to be in the next six years. Stay tuned for the presentation of the actual document and the process of reflection and integration of the POP.

At the same time the Provincial Council, with the Province Animation Team and the Province Youth Ministry Team, will begin the work, with your input, in the Province Salesian Educative Pastoral Plan 2023-2028. The PSEPP is the province plan that concretizes what we need to accomplish in the next six years.

I want to thank all the Salesian communities and the many teams and commissions in the Province, as well as the province leaders and young people in our ministries, who have contributed to the process so far. May the Lord bless you for all your efforts.

Be assured of my prayers for you and all your loved ones.

Sincerely in Christ and in Mary,
