On January 31, 2023 the Bollettino Salesiano OnLine was released as a new official publication of the Salesian Congregation to celebrate the feast day of St. John Bosco. A project of the Rector Major, the bulletin will be published in seven languages solely online and for the convenience of Salesians across the globe.
Returning to a tradition started by St. John Bosco of monthly updates, the online bulletin will bring tradition into the 21st century summarizing the events of the month that all Salesians can follow at their leisure.
“The Bulletin must not be a particular leaflet for each region, such as France, Spain, Italy, etc., but must be the general organ of all these regions, that is, of a specific Salesian Work, but in general. Let the news be compiled in such a way that all different regions have an interest in it, and let all editions in various languages be identical. For this purpose, they should be printed in all the various languages in the motherhouse, because in this way the address will be the same for everyone.” (MB XVII,668)
Covered within this monthly bulletin will be stories and articles related to Don Bosco and his charism yesterday and today. Additionally the accomplishments and ongoing Salesian works that occur throughout this growing family of 135 countries. Recounts of the historical steps of Don Bosco and the Salesian Congregation will be included to educate and enrich young readers of the bulletin as well as the ever expanding list of messages from Don Bosco’s Successor, the Rector Major, the missions, the Salesian Family, the cult of Mary Help of Christians, Salesian holiness, significant Salesian figures of all times and places, education and the world of youth, spiritual life, the good press, and current religious and Catholic issues.
The aim of this work will be to disseminate Salesian historical discoveries, successful Salesian initiatives, and other facts and people from around the world.
“Hoping in all these propositions to collaborate with the whole Salesian world, we entrust this new beginning to the protection of St. John Bosco, on the day of his birth to Heaven, and to the patron saint of the Congregation and of the press, St. Francis de Sales,” says Fr. Andrei Munteanu, Director of BSOL.
