On November 1st, a special and heartwarming celebration took place at the Santa Isabel Elementary School. This Eucharisty and the commemoration of All Saints were presided over by Father Steve Way SDB, and the event was a testament to the strong Salesian spirit that thrives in the community. The highlight of the day was the enthusiastic participation of children who brought the saints to life through creative costumes that represented saints close to the school and the Salesian charism.
The students gathered on a crisp autumn morning, filling the church with a sense of anticipation and excitement. The Feast of All Saints is a significant occasion in the Catholic calendar, dedicated to honoring all the saints, known and unknown, who have gone before us. This year, the celebration took on a unique and captivating form as the children from the Santa Isabel elementary school donned various costumes, each representing a saint. The costumes ranged from St. John Bosco to St. Therese of Lisieux, and they added a lively and colorful element to the Mass.
The Salesian charism, inspired by the teachings and mission of St. John Bosco, is a fundamental part of the educational philosophy at Santa Isabel elementary school. It was heartening to see the children not only embrace this charism but also embody it through their participation in the celebration. The presence of Saint John Bosco among the little saints was a testament to the enduring influence of this great saint on the Salesian tradition and the lives of those within the community.
The sight of these young saints parading down the aisle was both interesting and exciting. They confidently recited facts about their chosen saints, demonstrating an impressive memorization capacity. It was a touching and educational experience for both the children and the congregation, reminding everyone of the rich history and legacy of the saints who have walked before us.
The festivities didn’t end with the costumes. The dedication of the choir, under the guidance of one of the school’s teachers, was another highlight of the celebration. The students’ voices filled the church with beautiful hymns and songs that added a melodic backdrop to the Eucharistic Mass. It was a reminder of the talent and dedication present in the Santa Isabel elementary school community.
Father Steve’s homily tied the celebration together, emphasizing the importance of the saints as role models for the children and adults alike. He encouraged everyone to follow in the footsteps of the saints, embodying their virtues and commitment to God. It was a reminder of the enduring relevance of these holy men and women in our lives and the world.
As the Eucharistic Mass reached its conclusion, the joy and sense of unity in the congregation were palpable. The community had come together to celebrate their faith, their Salesian charism, and the saints who inspire them. The children, dressed as saints, left a lasting impression on everyone, reminding us that the Salesian spirit is very much alive in the hearts of the young generation.
