Directors and CYMs Unite for Role Review and Youth Advisory Commission Deliberations

By Luis Chacon

In a spirit of collaboration and shared vision, coordinators of Youth Ministry and directors of Salesian works within the Province of St. Andrew USA West convened on November 6th to delve into crucial discussions concerning the province’s Organic Plan and strategic/pastoral plan. Two paramount projects took center stage: the establishment of the Youth Advisory Commission and the clarification of the role of the Coordinator of Youth Ministry (CYM) in tandem with the director of the work.

Youth Advisory Commission:

The creation of the Youth Advisory Commission emerged as a crucial initiative to amplify the voices of young people across Salesian works. The commission aims to analyze the social climate faced by youth, provide insights to province leadership, and encourage alignment with Salesian Spirituality.

Director’s Crucial Role:

The Salesian Director, as outlined in Frame of Reference P.275, holds the key responsibility for pastoral animation, ensuring the unity of the Salesian mission. This includes fostering the charismatic identity of the Salesian Educational and Pastoral Project (SEPP), implementing formation programs, and maintaining cohesive pastoral ministry across all activities and works.

Youth Ministry Coordination:

The local CYM, outlined in Frame of Reference P.277, assumes a pivotal role in coordinating pastoral activities, planning in alignment with SEPP objectives and integrating various educational and pastoral initiatives. Noteworthy interventions from the meeting emphasize the necessity of constant communication between the Director and CYM and the importance of CYM collaboration with the broader Salesian community, local Church, and other educational bodies.
