A Vibrant Holy Week Journey: St. Isabel Catholic Elementary School Celebrations

By Luis Chacon

During the sacred days of Holy Week, the St. Isabel Catholic Elementary School embarked on a profound journey of reflection, prayer, and celebration. This journey was made possible under the guidance of our dedicated educators and the invaluable support of the Salesian community. Facilitated by Salesian Cooperator Jesús Ortega, the Coordinator of the Religion Department, and Salesians of Don Bosco from the local community, the students experienced a vivid tapestry of spiritual activities and educational engagements, enriching their understanding of this sacred time.

The journey commenced on Monday with a Seder Celebration. Guided by Fr. Peter Le, SDB, students partook in the symbolic rituals of Passover, including the sharing of unleavened cookies, representing the bread of affliction, the lighting of candles, and a dialogue on the family dynamics portrayed in the story of the Prodigal Son.

Tuesday unfolded with a solemn and poignant reenactment of the Stations of the Cross, a portrayal performed by the students themselves. Through dramatic representation, they walked the path of Christ’s suffering, embodying the profound sacrifice and unwavering love exemplified in the stations.

Midweek, Wednesday, saw the reverent observance of the Adoration of the Holy Cross, led by Fr. Hector Franco, SDB. Students gathered in prayerful contemplation, venerating the symbol of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice and redemption for humanity.

Thursday morning culminated the week’s journey in a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. Hector. The Gospel narrative of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet reminded the students of the mandate of love expressed through humble service. This reenactment and reflection reminded students of the importance of compassion, humility, and selflessness in their daily lives.

Throughout Holy Week, the students of St. Isabel Catholic Elementary School were not mere spectators but active participants in the rich tapestry of faith and tradition. Their active involvement, guided by their dedicated teachers and the nurturing presence of the Salesian community, allowed them to deepen their understanding of the Paschal mystery and embrace the call to live lives of faith, service, and love.
