Education That Changes Lives – Even In Times Of War: The Don Bosco Vocational Education Center

(ANS – Lviv) – The Don Bosco Vocational Education Center is the only Catholic and private vocational training institution in Ukraine, combining high-quality professional training with spiritual guidance and value-based education inspired by the charism of Saint John Bosco. Despite the ongoing war and all its challenges, the Center in Lviv continues to grow and develop. Over the years, it has become a safe and supportive space for:

–       vulnerable youth,

–       internally displaced persons (IDPs),

–       young people from de-occupied territories,

–       families of military personnel,

–       veterans with disabilities,

–       and all those seeking professional development.

Young people consciously choose the Salesian school — not only for the prestige of the professions offered, but for the atmosphere of dignity, trust, and acceptance. We often hear sincere words: “I want to gain my profession with the Salesians!” — and that is our greatest source of inspiration.

A New Level of Vocational Education

This year, the Center introduced a new specialty: Graphic and Product Design, integrating creativity with cutting-edge technologies. Existing programs in IT, Culinary Arts, and Automotive Electronics have also been updated.

Recognizing the urgent need for Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction, labor market demands, and the evolving aspirations of young people, the Center is planning to expand its educational offerings in key areas such as:

–        renewable energy technologies,

–        automation and manufacturing engineering.

These fields are critical to rebuilding the nation and creating a stable, future-oriented economy. Over 85% of our graduates secure employment in their field or continue their studies at universities — a strong testimony to the effectiveness of the Salesian approach.

Beyond Education: Comprehensive Support

Students at Don Bosco Center benefit from:

–        university entrance exam preparation,

–        English and German language courses,

–        sports, music, and creative studios,

–        psychological support and mentorship,

–        spiritual formation in the Salesian tradition,

–        volunteerism, career counseling, and employer networking.

In 2024 alone, over 200 adults — including IDPs, veterans, and military families — completed short-term training programs. For many, it marked a new beginning and a path toward stability.

Core Values:

–        High-quality vocational education — modern workshops, labs, and digital technologies.

–        Education for all — opportunities for retraining and lifelong learning.

–        Connection with the labor market — strong ties with local businesses and employers.

–        International opportunities — Erasmus+ and partnerships with European training centers.

–        Industry-experienced instructors — practitioners sharing real-world knowledge.

–        Spiritual and cultural foundation — education rooted in the spirit of Don Bosco.

In these difficult times, the youth who come to Don Bosco are not just seeking a profession — they are looking for hope, for community, for meaning. And here, they find dignity, encouragement, and faith in a better future.

“Sadly, due to limited resources, we are unable to accept all applicants — a Salesian from Lviv community stated –. Many young people were not admitted simply because we lacked the capacity. That is why the project of reconstruction and expansion of the Center is our team’s top priority. We are committed to opening more doors for those who are ready to transform their lives”.
