Bishop Mora Salesian High School Stands in Solidarity with the Annunciation School Community

By Judy Alvarez, SC

(Los Angeles, California) – The Annunciation School shooting in Minneapolis struck a deep chord for the faith community of Bishop Mora Salesian High School. On Wednesday, August 27, the day of the tragedy, the school administration expressed their solidarity in prayer through social media: We pray for the repose of the souls of the lost children, the comfort and consolation of their families and friends, and for the will and wisdom for our country to confront the ongoing problem of gun violence.

The call to prayer and action for the suffering community was manifest the next day. On Thursday, August 28, the Campus Ministry Office and student leaders held a school-wide prayer service to support the families and teachers at Annunciation School.

Their action was in keeping with the sentiments of faith leaders across the nation. As Archbishop William Lori, the vice-president of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops, said,

“As a Church, we are following the tragic news from Annunciation School in Minneapolis with heartbreaking sadness. Whenever one part of the Body of Christ is wounded, we feel the pain as if it were our very own children. Let us all beg the Lord for the protection and healing of the entire Annunciation family.”1
