(ANS – Madrid) – Director Antonio Cuadri’s new film, “Te protegerán mis alas,”(My wings will protect you), which will be released in Spanish cinemas on November 14, was presented at several international festivals. The film, which won the Jury Award for Best International Feature Film at the Portobello Film Festival (England) and the Audience Award at the International “Cinema Bajo la Luna” Festival in Islantilla (Spain), is based on the novel of the same name by Salesian José Miguel Núñez Moreno, a former member of the Salesian General Council (2008-2014), and is inspired by a true story.
The story illustrates the life of Wentinam, an orphan child born in Togo and raised on the streets of Kara. His destiny changes when he meets Salesian missionary José Antonio Rodríguez Bejarano, who helps him out of poverty and violence. United by a deep friendship, Wentinam embarks on a risky journey to Europe, crossing, like many immigrants, the Strait of Gibraltar, with the desire to reach Seville to meet his friend José Antonio again.
Shot between Togo and Andalusia, the film forcefully tackles social issues such as immigration and the search for a dignified future, paying tribute to the missionaries who dedicate their lives to the most vulnerable. “It is the story of an external journey and another, more important and profound one, which is the one that human beings make within themselves. A story of essential human values,” director Antonio Cuadri said.
The film boasts a respectable cast led by Ibrahima Koné (in the role of Wentinam), and with Nacho López, Daniel Ortiz, Alejo Sauras and Favour David, and is produced by Ulises Producciones and Odeón Media Entertainment, in collaboration with Salesian Spain’s Mary Help of Christians Province (SMX) based in Seville, and the Misiones Salesianas Mission Office based in Madrid. The film is distributed by Maravillas Films.
“Te protegerán mis alas” is part of the 150th anniversary of the First Salesian Missionary Expedition and is a tribute to all those who risk their lives to realize their dreams and to those who accompany them with dedication and commitment.
