Promoting Clean Air: Breathe So Cal’s Garden Initiative

By Karen Krynen

(Rosemead, California) – Several Don Bosco Tech students and their families recently participated in Breathe So Cal and BlueSky LA’s Build-a-Garden program at Rio Hondo College. Breathe Southern California and BlueSkyLA are organizations that promote healthy air and lungs; their goal is to make LA one of the cleanest air cities in the world through research, education, and technology.

The hardworking Tech students who pitched in at Rio Hondo are Joaquin Varela wearing the sun hat, Andrew Garcia wearing the white Tiger golf team hat and holding shears, Ryan Diab in the black sweatshirt, and Ethan Fonancier with his family.

The garden project focused on community, connection, and creating a space where people can learn, grow, and come together. Volunteers pulled weeds, raked, laid landscape fabric, and added mulch to get the campus area ready for plants to thrive.
