Fr. Bob Flickinger’s 26th Trip to El Salvador

By Larry Arellano, Salesian Past Pupil

(Bellflower, California) – On November 5, Fr. Bob Flickinger joyfully embarked on his 26th mission trip to El Salvador. The wonderful group was comprised of 11 enthusiastic volunteers from three different parishes in Michigan, along with myself, ready to make a difference together.

Fr. Bob celebrated Mass for the community on Saturday night. For his homily, he warmly invited all the little children to gather around him on the floor. He then shared the enchanting story of Don Bosco and his mysterious dog, Grigio, capturing their full attention.

The Mission group met with various of people and students to understand their activities and needs as they prepare for the upcoming school year. They compassionately provide financial assistance to those who require support. Additionally, the group extends their help to the school community and offersvital resources for those in need of medical attention, such as necessary medications.

Even though it was hot and humid, the children and adults truly enjoyed their time together. The people, despite their challenges, are deeply grateful for everything the group does for them.

The group had wonderful interactions with the children through various engaging activities, including a fun water balloon fight. Additionally, the group extended their supportive presence to the elderly in the community.

On Sunday night, the group fed the entire village of about 250 persons.  They all ate and drank well; not to mention that they were very grateful for all that we did for them.
