Aleppo, New Armed Clashes: At Least Seven Victims. Educational Activities Suspended for Security Reasons

(ANS – Aleppo) – At least seven people, including six civilians, were killed in armed clashes that erupted on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in Aleppo, northern Syria. The fighting involved Syrian government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with both sides blaming one another for the recent escalation, while negotiations between the parties have been stalled for several months.

According to local sources, drone strikes and fighting in densely populated areas caused civilian and military casualties, numerous injuries, and damage to infrastructure. For security reasons, some of the city’s main roads were temporarily closed. The parties to the conflict have also suggested the possibility of further military action.

Amid this growing instability, the Salesian community in Aleppo, long committed to serving young people and the most vulnerable members of society, continues to be a point of reference for the local population. The events of recent days recall the early stages of the conflict, once again shaping the daily life of the city.

Because of the security situation, all educational and pastoral activities have been temporarily suspended. After-school programs, sports and recreational activities, training sessions, and meetings of the Salesian Cooperators have been halted.

Meanwhile, a renewed appeal for prayer is being addressed to the entire Salesian world, asking for spiritual solidarity with the populations affected by the conflict and support for the journey toward lasting peace. Despite the difficulties, hope for a reconciled future for the country remains alive.
