NFCYM Exchange – Day 1 Recap (Louisville, KY)

By Gina Robles, Province Youth Ministry Associate

(Bellflower, California) – Day 1 of the NFCYM’S EXCHANGE (National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry) in Louisville, Kentucky, set a powerful and prayerful tone for the gathering, centering on the key theme of accompaniment and our shared mission to walk with young people in faith. The day began with moments of prayer that grounded participants in purpose and reminded everyone that ministry flows first from our relationship with God.

A special highlight of the day was the presence and leadership of two members of the Salesian Family, who offered inspiring and practical sessions. Salesian Sister Guerline Joseph presented “Leading like Don Bosco: The Bosco Blueprint,” guiding participants through the Oratory Model and inviting ministry leaders to reflect on how Don Bosco’s approach can continue to shape welcoming, faith-filled spaces for young people today.

Sister Guerline Jose and Juan Carlos Montenegro,  PhD, Executive Director of the Salesian Family Youth Center (from Boyle Heights, California), presenting at NFCYM’S EXCHANGE in Louisville, Kentucky, February 2, 2026.

Later, Juan Carlos Montenegro offered “The Evangelization Process: The Secret Source of Accompanying Youth,” a session that challenged and encouraged participants to see evangelization not just as a task, but as the heart of authentic accompaniment. His reflections helped connect the call to journey with young people to the deeper source of our ministry and mission.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in thoughtful conversation, reflection, and shared learning, building connections with one another and renewing their commitment to serve young people with compassion, presence, and hope. Day 1 concluded with mass and with a strong sense of gratitude and excitement for the days ahead, as the community looked forward to continuing the journey of accompaniment together.
