Salesian High School Students Partner with Don Bosco Mission Center to Serve Boyle Heights

By Dr. Ricardo Quintero, Works of Mercy Coordinator

(Boyle Heights, California) – The new year began with renewed commitment and compassion as Salesian High School students partnered with the Don Bosco Mission Center to support the local Boyle Heights community. On January 31, 2026, a group of Catholic, service-oriented young men came together to serve one of Los Angeles’s most under-resourced neighborhoods through hands-on outreach and fellowship.

The students, active members of Salesian High School’s Criminal Justice Club, Mustang Outreach Movement, and Pre-Health Society, participated under the guidance and sponsorship of Mr. Robert Ramirez. This marked the fifth time these young men have served at the Mission Center, continuing a meaningful tradition of service and solidarity.

Throughout the day, the students prepared burritos for distribution to unhoused individuals and played a key role in organizing the Mission Center’s first monthly free rummage event, held on Saturday. Community members gathered to receive essential items such as clothing, shoes, household goods, and toys for children—resources that can make a real difference in daily life.

The Salesian students worked with enthusiasm, respect, and generosity, demonstrating true servant leadership as they assisted families and individuals with care and dignity. Their efforts reflected not only a commitment to service, but also the values of empathy, justice, and community engagement that Salesian High School strives to instill.

This collaboration highlights the powerful impact young people can have when they come together to serve others and reminds us that building community begins with simple acts of kindness, offered consistently and with heart.
