Burritos, Blessings, and Lenten Grace

By Ben Pluma

(February 28, 2026 – Los Angeles, CA) – As we enter the third week of Lent, our community at the Don Bosco Mission Center in Boyle Heights continues its Works of Mercy Outreach initiative with renewed dedication and joy.

Volunteers gathered early to unload food supplies, prepare meat, beans, and rice, and organize an assembly line for burrito preparation. Others carefully sorted donated clothing, ensuring that each item would be ready to serve someone in need. Every volunteer had a role, and every role mattered.

Dr. Rick Quintero, Works of Mercy Coordinator, began the morning in prayer inside the Mission Center chapel. Reflecting on Scripture, he invited us to consider how this Lenten season is shaping our hearts. Lent calls us to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving—and our outreach is one concrete way we live out that call. In serving others, we offer not only our time and effort, but also our Lenten sacrifices for those most in need.

As the ministry continues to grow, so does its impact. With more hands to serve, more burritos are prepared, more clothing is distributed, and more families are supported. What began as a simple act of charity is steadily becoming a powerful witness of faith in action.

We are deeply grateful to all who volunteered their time and energy. Thank you as well to our generous benefactors who provide the food supplies and to those who faithfully donate items to the Charity Shop. Your support makes this mission possible.
