By Luis Chacon, Coordinator of Youth Ministry
(Boyle Heights, California) – Over the weekend of March 14–15, 2026, we participated in the PYMT & CYM Gathering, led by Fr. Fabian Cardenas, SDB, Gina Robles, and Victoria Figueroa—a beautiful space of reflection, collaboration, and fraternity within Salesian Youth Ministry.
One idea echoed throughout the weekend:
Don Bosco never worked alone.
His mission was always carried out by a community.
Through inspiring presentations by Fr. Alejandro Rodríguez, SDB; Antonella Sinagoga; and Fr. Francisco Cervantes, SDB, we reflected on the importance of collaboration, the Educative-Pastoral Community (EPC), and the Preventive System of reason, religion, and loving-kindness.
We were reminded that authentic pastoral leadership does not walk ahead of people, but with them.
Moments of prayer, Lenten reflection, community sharing, and joyful celebration reminded us that the Salesian spirit is built not only through work, but also through friendship and fraternity.
Inspired by the vision of St. John Bosco, we continue striving to build communities that are truly:
• a home that welcomes
• a parish that evangelizes
• a school that prepares for life
• a playground where young people encounter Christ
We are grateful to have shared this experience with CYM leaders from across the province and with the young people who continue to bring life to this mission.
The Salesian mission succeeds when leadership becomes a shared mission.
